There are numerous reports across the Twin Cities on ICE monitoring pages of drones circling apartment buildings. What valid law enforcement reason could there be for this?

not ICE, but may have to bring the kid to the council meeting tomorrow - saw this on the news today "...PD’s Axon System contract to include 12 drone docks with Skydio X10 Drones. The agenda item explains that the addition will not exceed $9,407,699.82..."

We fly these for fires as well. Assuming the same camera, they have extremely good camera zoom (like 80x before it gets super pixelly) and they also have a super creepy “follow” mode - the drone can latch onto a person or vehicle and follow it around. Mass surveillance in the sky.

To everyone asking, "What's the right way to take down a drone then?" - I'd argue that if you're not in an active, for-real combat area, you almost certainly have options that are better for everyone than trying to take out a drone.

Quarter million dollar fine. Legally the same as shooting at a loaded 747. FAA treats all cases of shooting at aircraft the same. They don't HAVE to hit you with the maximums, but that's what's on the table if they catch you. And you KNOW what this regime would do with it.

Thank you for that. My first thought was definitely shoot them down, but in a city, you are quite right - too dangerous. But this below, do we know if this is happening?

Yes, this is absolutely happening for beyond visual line of sight drone operations, which are very strictly regulated. This is not new, and has been in the works for a long time.

We found three cars full of masked ICE agents in a residential car park. Our guide asked them if they had a warrant, they refused to answer. I asked them several questions about what they were doing. They then made obscene gestures at us. Shortly afterwards, a drone appeared circling our car.
