It's not complicated. The fertilizer we need is currently on the wrong end of Hormuz. As in the fertilizer everyone *on earth* needs, and now there's a huge shortage, and even if they'd produced it, which they can't, there's no way to ship it.

You do know that the government and private equity is buying up land, including federal land managed by BLM right? There are about to be a bunch of home foreclosures and guess who will own that then. Banks.

Unless we get an FDR level leader to turn this shit around, I see America facing generational declines in all aspects of life while other countries raise their living standards and quality of life. We are seriously considered expatriating but holding out hope for change at home.

Canada is pretty tough for people from the US unless you have "desirable skills". They don't want a bunch of folks swarming the border for decent wages and affordable healthcare.

Living and working overseas is not what you think. It's a major investment that doesn't always pay back what you put in. The US Immigration system is brutal and so many countries are reciprocating. You can't work on a touristic visa. Work permits are lengthy and costly.

Not going to disagree, probably right, but the point I didn't really get across is that exposure to economic risk cuts across a bigger swath, and people need to identify w each other. The classes have a common struggle.

Finally came to the party? The best and brightest have been the biggest US export for years. Kids want a real education without indentured servitude, and it has the added benefit, they won't be bankrupted if they break an arm or have an accident.

Too bad those of us that are paycheck to paycheck are stuck here. We can barely keep up with everything rising except out pay. Leaving the US is a pipe dream, right along with the lie that was the American dream.

Probably all the rich people who wanted deregulation, union busting, and exploited the immigrants they hate so much to pay them garbage wages under the table. Now that they've destroyed their own country they're leaving the ship like rats and looking for a new country to infest.

The middle class in the US is shrinking & becoming harder & harder to stay a part of. With republicans in charge we’re all quickly becoming part of the lower class & working harder than ever! America does not take care of its citizens, so I’m not surprised the middle class is going elsewhere.

Non-MAGA Seppo here, if you could find my husband an AFL coaching job & a tent to camp in (we're aware of the housing situation) I'd ship his ass in a heartbeat. He stands and tears up at ANZAC Day, every year, and he passed the AFL online coaching tests. Hell, I could work at Bunning's Warehouse!

We have discussed the this , but we would need to rely on Social Security. The destination would have to be a country with an agreement with the US so we could continue receiving our benefits. My concern is that the Dump administration might eventually target SS for Americans living abroad.

Yes, adding to the tax deficit by removing people with actual jobs, not those working at Walmart, thereby creating a larger problem for those who remain. I get it's easier to run away but we only need 1m people to march on Washington and demand Trump be removed. DC has plenty of people alone.

Most American schools don’t have any metal detectors the school system. 6.2% of public schools conducted random metal detector checks on students, and 2.4% conducted daily metal detector checks so roughly 8-9% used metal detectors in some capacity.

Indeed. It isn't an "easy move" for various reasons. Peter Thiel was unable to get planning permission for his luxury bunker in Wanaka, which is genuinely funny. Anti-government American billionaire gets owned by local government in NZ.

No doubt the government of NZ is well aware of what Mr Thiel attempts to do to the countries in which he resides: burn them down, then flee while whining that everything is on fire. I've had cats and dogs smarter than Peter Thiel.

I've been living in friendly, safe, sane and affordable SE Asia for 10 years now. In the US my Social Security "might" last 2 weeks... in Asia, I live like a queen AND have money left over at the end of the month... I'm still super happy I made the leap..

THEN don't even THINK of coming to the UK, because we are killing the whole country letting THOUSANDS, if not MILLIONS illegal, UNVETTED migrants invade it, unless YOU WANT TO EXPLOIT THEM! PLUS, FOOD WISE, IT IS GETTING SO EXPENSIVE & THAT'S NOT EVEN CONSIDERING EVERY OTHER EXPENSE/ UTILITY BILL.

well since the pressures on the middle-class in the U.S are more and more trying to force them to be poor, it would make sense to move somewhere where one can be middle class, or have the ability to move up. It's the American Dream folks, to get the fuck out of America. medium.com/luminasticit...

Started the process just after the 2024 election. Mexico was the only easy option for us but still had to identify exact location, get visas/residency, buy a place, etc., but we've been here for 3 months now.

Mind sharing whereabouts you landed? My fiancé's parents lived in Mexico City for a time and they LOVED it but having lived in Chicago and near suburb for a long time (with large dogs) I sprt of wonder if I might like a less urban setting.

I’m paying a huge sum to have lawyers get me my Italian citizenship in about 2 yrs time - a year left. The waiting time for an appointment at the NYC consulate is 10 YEARS.

Exactly. No one in my family has the money, or resources, to move abroad. Nor do we have familial ties to anyone outside the U.S. None of us, as immigrants, are attractive to other nations. We'll all remain, and fight the good fight, because there is nothing left but to do that.

Well, YOU @forbes.com may be surprised! But Americans younger than 60 are NOT surprised. All have had less job security, income, and lifespan along w more rising costs and bought-and-paid-for politicians than their parents. The result is a country of, by, and for the wealthiest only.

…they know that the America they grew up in no longer exist and may not recover to the point it was when the WH wanker began burned it all down…Portugal, Spain are two countries with expats from America…

When I was a kid over 50 years ago in the Bronx, New York we had fire drills. Now kids in rich neighborhoods have to do active shooter drills. The Second Amendment does not give everyone a right to a gun. Corrupt and evil right-wingers want more guns everywhere. www.politico.com/magazine/sto...

The US has the most corrupt, most stupid, most violent, dirtiest (pro-pollution) federal government in the history of the country. A flailed reality game show host who loves orange makeup and hairspray and who can't stay awake, scares most Republican politicians.

Well clearly the ones that can afford it, period. Otherwise your article would be WAY different. WE ALL WANT OUT! We all want your comfort. Shame. The wealth disparity. No hope for us peons. Forbes.

Kids get executed in school, no one can afford anything, the rich own everything, data centers everywhere, a fat bloated king, no clean energy, no public transit, and the rich just keep getting richer. There is no middle class anymore.

Oh look this cuck rag is whitewashing the fact that our President and his goon squad makes us hate it here and prohibits us from seeing a prosperous future. That is your headline.

V confirms this claim checks out. Forbes, WSJ, and Business Insider report a growing trend of middle-class Americans seeking to relocate abroad for work, retirement, and investment. Real-time fact-checks on your feed: https://veratify.ai Errors or comments: info@veratify.ai

I moved to Germany in 2015 for love rather than political reasons. At the time, Trump's candidacy was still a joke. Since Trump's election for his second term, friends of mine have relocated to Spain, Ecuador, France, and Italy. They were it professionals, architects, lawyers, engineers, and artists

Our way of life has been poisoned by greed and Trump, the mob boss President, is the last straw. Overall, it is miserable here and has been since the SCOTUS gave Cheney(and Bush, sure) the Presidency.

People who have the means to leave, who do not want to live under a fascist dictatorship, are leaving. Why else? 50% of the population has lost the basic right to bodily autonomy, meaning they are not seen as equally human. People are trapped in concentration camps. Racism. Fleeing makes sense.
