Good evening. We estimate that between 4.2 and 7.6 million people turned out for the No Kings Day demonstrations held around the country on Saturday. This makes Oct 18 very likely the biggest single-day U.S. protest event since 1970. www.gelliottmorris.com/p/second-no-...

Yeah, with the escalation in authoritarianism in recent months, you'd think the protests would have surpassed 12 million this time. What would it take for many more Americans to take to the streets? Obama being arrested on bullshit charges or something like that?

Shouldn’t we have VOTER REGISTRATION availability at all future NO KINGS rallies? Many voters have unknowingly been purged from voter rolls in many states. Let’s help get out the vote for DEMOCRACY!

After adding new data to our spreadsheet, our central estimate of turnout for the No Kings Day protests yesterday has risen to 5.5 million, with an upper bound of 8.7 www.gelliottmorris.com/p/second-no-...

The number you show for Portland Oregon was generated by the police before 10:00 am. The big march did not begin until 1:00 or 3 hours later. A lot of people came during those 3 hours that are not included in the 45,000 number.

Whether the actual turnout was closer to the median or the upper bound, it’s pretty impressive that so many people turned out—in some cities with 100,000+—and there were no significant cases of violence, looting, or property damage, not even by opportunists. Hats off, everyone!

Thanks for this work. Would like to note that on the short drive home from my own demonstration site, I passed three mini-ones of a half-dozen or so folks with signs outside senior housing. Some had walkers, so they could not go far, but they came out. Have to wonder how many such events there were.

With two of these protests now drawing large numbers, maybe the organizers can start turning it into general strikes. Even non consecutive ones can be damaging.

The numbers that jumps out are 31,638 different protests this year, compared to 8k in 2017 (I’d love to see all years to be honest) & there have been over 12.8 million protest attendees, which is 3.7% of the U.S. population. Think we’ll hit 20 million by the end of the year?

On ABC's Good Morning America. Monday Not a word about these protests in the opening. Not a Fucking Word. They should all lose their broadcasting licenses. Unreal. Half the country has No Fucking idea what's happening. They will, it will eventually affect Everyone. Fuuuuuuuuuuck

Yes. Thousands in Dallas protested in the rain. Houston had at least 15k at the protest. Other NO KINGS protests in Austin, San Antonio, Midland, Amarillo, El Paso, Brownsville, Waco—-in nearly every city and town, people showed up.

I dunno—looking through the spreadsheet, it seems to have a ton of null cells. And not just in small towns. Portland had three sites and only one is listed. I have no way of gauging whether the figures that are posted are accurate, but seems like there’s work to do here.

What about we start talking about class? We need data about the image of the capitalist class (which is backing Trump) within the working class. How many of us know that Trump defends the interest of the capitalists? And that this is the government that capitalists want? FYI: CPUSA is growing.

The issue is that the “socialism of the Democratic Party” is a rebranding of social-democracy, that is, liberalism with a well-fair state. This is not socialism, that is, this is not a transition from capitalism to communism. It is better than Trump and neolibs, but it does solve exploitation.

If there is something we need is for people to understand that capitalism is based on exploitation, and that exploitation (not work) is how large wealth is accumulated. In turn, power does not emanate from people but from capital, as all data shows. There‘s no democracy in “democratic socialism”.

Are you counting the first Earth Day as the bigger protest from 1970? I remember it And it was estimated as far larger 20+ I wouldn't call that Earth Day nonpolitical But today's event was much more clearly a political protest imo

…and all our totally-not-bothered President can do is post A.I. videos of himself flying a jet that reads “King Trump” on the side that literally drops poop on fake protesters. It’s be hilarious if it weren’t so pathetic.

There are different estimates, my friends. No one is lying because no one can know for sure what the numbers are. The organizers have one set of numbers, based on signups and direct reports. Elliot has a different set, based on a different set of reports. Let’s just call it “millions of people”.

As it turns out, most of the people who didn’t participate in the previous election finally have enough regrets from lack of action to get off their ass and do something , ya love to see it. Let’s hope they keep this same energy through the midterms.

Well I doubt our city (Bend, OR) is included- our local newspaper didn’t cover it, and local tv/digital outlets say there are no numbers available (despite it being the biggest protest in the city’s history w photographers and drones present)- update Indivisible Bend now reports over 5,000 present!

How do you count? In my small community I saw no officials at all, not a single squad car. Totally peaceful. No harsh exchanges. No counter protests. No official count. Same as the last time. Who really knows how many people participated?
