oh wait, this one feels sociologically important! And kind of sad. that was pre-pandemic.. OG Fortnight was so 'Perfect' because your life was still new and free, and the world hadn't burdened you with knowledge of suffering, and the government kind of still worked, and services were functional...

Does this fit the description for "360 shooter everyone hated at the time" that "is now getting video essays from zoomers talking like its the lost soul of the once beautiful games industry"?

oh i remember when this came out, people loved it at the time. there was a slow wave of realisation as word of mouth spread oh this game is doing somethig

They did? I was convinced it was seen as your average shooter slop back during its release. It was only after the reviews and people actually playing it that the culture shifted its tone around it.

yeah but the timeline on that was like. as soon as people started finishing the game. it was immediately a cult hit among pretentious gamer types at the time

Crazy that we got two games named prey in back to back generations that have nothing to do with each other but they're both pretty great

Idt either of these games were "good" but they tried to do some cool shit and i respect them for it. Add stranglehold to that as well

i do wanna shout out that kane and lynch 2 vulgar auteurism has been around since it came out it’s always been a cult classic. difference between that and like, let’s all decide we like homefront 2 now

Rubbing my hands together like the sneering raccoon meme that says "soon" as I wait to be on the bleeding edge of "Ghost Recon Wildlands was good actually" discourse but burying the thesis, "...but only if you pretend it's a satire of american interventionism and exceptionalism ala Team America."

If you think about it the game was really saying, "Are you and three other soldiers a bad enough dude to take on the entire country of Bolivia and win?"

honestly one of the ubislop games I had the most fun with and I am probably the most mad that they killed its multiplayer so dead that the fan revival project completely petered out. IT WAS MY MILSLOP. IT HAD GOOD CLASSES IN IT. IT WAS FUN 6v6! I LIKED IT!

it also had the most bonkers melee attacks in the game. For no reason the scout just had a knife that let them do melee attacks fast enough that if you weren't careful they could wipe a squad. Meanwhile the assault would bash someone over the head with an LMG then backswing them with it.

my only take is GRFS is a solid 3rd person shooter with a basic story. My only reason I don't like it is the same with everything else. I love every ghost recon up to graw. But this didn't feel like that slow steady moment and tactical engagement where one shot is death... To gears ghost recon.

And they were correct; that game was a solid 6 but it had great bones, it just needed more polish. I think a sequel with modern controls would kick ass.

I would actually 100% dig a tell all tale of what the fuck happened to this game behind the scenes. Because I don't think we ever fully knew. But that's a little bit different than glazing the final product like so many do for extremely mid games.

I can't do it. People hyping the time that made me almost lose interest in video games altogether being held up as the golden standard now. I just can't do it

"Bullet Witch, Neverdead, and Wet: the unlikely triad of shooters that bled cool and had brave new ideas almost good enough to unseat the likes of Army of Two and Mercenaries, were ahead of their time by..."

"Everyone" in this case having always been comprisedonly of the minority of self-appointed culture critics. The masses always liked those games. Thats why they sold well to begin with. Of course the old dismissals of those games werent gonna be their modern consensus they never were to begin with

every time i’ve heard anyone talk about rage they always say the exact same thing ‘well it’s id so it feels great and the combats fantastic and its tons of fun. shame it fucking sucks and is awful’

every time! The shooting is fun! You spend most of the game shooting! IDK why the game isn't fun given the previous two sentences? Do not say "story" IDK what that is.

As soon as I heard people talking about how Phantom Menace was actually really good I knew we were entering a tragic era for reappraising bad things Though what does it say that Deus Ex: Invisible War, a game I even liked at the time to be clear, is still considered bad
