every time i post about 360core shooters lately many of you reply with bring back haze jokes and i'm sorry to tell you i am too close to the subject matter so i know the powerscaling. no one likes haze. haze is actually terrible. its more like bring back clive barker's jericho

There's a bit like 3/5ths of the way through that lasts about 20 minutes that's good, unclear why they made the rest of it bad. The Survivor Missions is almost something so naturally that's console locked and DLC.

Syndicate (2012) is my white whale of 360core garbage- interesting enough setpieces to remember them fondly, with the rest of it beige enough to slip free of memory so I can go "oh yeah that's the one where you hack guys into shooting themselves" and then not think about it again for 2 years

Hang on let me get in the mindset here… “Bring back Singularity!” “Bring back Rogue Warrior!” “Bring back Fracture!” “Bring back Quake 4!” This one is an rpg shooter and a personal callout, “Bring back Alpha Protocol!” I know for sure there’s a Gears rips off im forgetting here…

I remember playing Quake 4’s intro at buddies house in school and thinking all the military units with the names and shit was the coolest thing in the world. It wouldn’t be until after high school until I played past the first hour and found out the rest of game is just Quake fucking 4

in terms of 360core shooters i would say haze is in the second lowest. above total slop like blacksite area 51 or 007 legends. but only because its a bit funny. it stands proud in d tier alongside its brothers mindjack and homefront

solid b tiers both. kind of mirrors of each other. wolfenstein is solid but uninspired, a middling showing from a genuinely legendary fps developer. bulletstorm has flashes of brilliance but is too Made In 2011 to capitalise on any of it so it feels disappointing despite being Okay

Actually I don't think I'd even *heard* of Haze before this. Is this one of those cases where they called it something else in the US, like, "of course we have to call it bulletstorm, that's the kind of name that makes the kids threaten their parents when they don't let them play it"

My folks wouldn't let us have what they called "gun games" except my brother somehow talked them into gettting 007 Legends. Think that kept us in the Assassins Creed zone for another year on its own.

If either of them played anything other than Age of Mythology I'd think they did it on purpose (they were victims of the Red Dead Redemption is an old timey prostitute murder simulator moral panic and kind of just decided that that was every game with a gun in it).

tabgientially related but i remember one time i mentioned army of two in passing in a post and some guy commented on it like "yooo i used to love playing The Devils Cartel back in the day!!!" like no man. thats the bad one

As a Barkerhead who beat Jericho as a teenager and then had gamestop refuse to let me trade it in bc the cost of buffing out the scratch would cost more than the value of the game, I constantly go "look it wasn't 'good' but there was something there." I will never play it again.

Unfortunately, most bullet time shooters of that era were more boring then their ambitious weirdness made up for (Fuse, Legendary, Resistance, Damnation, Turning Point, Fracture, Inversion, Time Shift, Quantum Theory et al) 😔 you could say the Condemneds were the ideal tho they score too high

Even then, Resistance Fall of Man is like the weird food you have over a kid with a lot of allergies house. You have to chase it with 5 minutes of Bad Company 2s MP to feel anything. Reminds me of the many odd MP Shooters of that era (MAG, Starhawk, Dust 514, Hybrid, Brink, Frontlines Fuel of War)

Back on the Forums/IRC chat days we had this friend who's first big job was working on Haze. He was so excited and he hyped it up for a year. Then after he dramatically left the forum with an announcement post.

Yes! i played that only this year, and while i cannot say i would play it again, i loved how hard they tried at everything in that one. Never saw another game made me feel the movie thing of a entire squad shooting at a beast all together like that.

turok is way higher up the powerscaling. that's up there with like timeshift and the darkness in terms of you're always gonna get a few people like no man you dont understand this game ruled
