@lindsayellis.bsky.social talking about the phantom of the opera sequel m.youtube.com/watch?v=Pfz-...

Same, I recently did a run through about a half dozen of my favorites and it was incredibly satisfying.

Big Joel was my first thought as well

I wouldn’t be surprised if you’re already familiar, but Kevin Perjurer (Defunctland/DefunctTV) is one of my absolute favorite examples of a ridiculously meticulous deep dive on something very surface level whimsical, like amusement parks or kids’ shows. YouTube documentarian, highly recommend.

Not quite the same thing, but I've been watching series like Watch+Play, Scorpy's Beautiful Discs, and Jenkins' Herald Reviews Those are more like "intelligent person tries to figure out what person who made complete nonsense was trying to do".

youtu.be/93nMBtXVAfM?... There is a whole 5 part series on Louie c.k and talks about the allegations, how cancelation isn't real, and the author's own reflection around misogyny. Good shit.

(Fool Time is sort of a media critique in disguise since it takes Home Improvement as its framing device...)

Reminds me of a certain "Starcraft: Ghosts: Nova" podcast that I really need to finish listening to!

RLM's two-part video about Jack & Jill where they start by criticizing the film but wind up making a really interesting point about the way certain films are just a fake product where instead of investing the budget in the film it's just pocketed www.youtube.com/watch?v=sXNs...

A classic: youtu.be/uKfdls1fqJE?...

Most of breadtube channels have this. Although I've stopped watching because it's ultimately bad for my mental health.

Have you seen Josh Johnson's....anything? Because it's not QUITE that, but is incredibly, insanely similar. If you're asking for comics, then Linkara is a brilliant one as well.

Mothcub's done a lot of great stuff in that area. This one about J-Lo's 'This is me...Now' is a doozy: www.youtube.com/watch?v=dcQj...

More examination than takedown, Jose has a bunch of video essays you might enjoy youtube.com/@josebird?si...

Shaun, Hbomberguy, Sarah Z to name a few.

if you'd be interested in archaeology and history versions of this, veritas et caritas and fredda are both very good (the former tending to be fairly dry, though).

I guess you've seen Hbomberguy videos? :)

Hbomb's Sherlock vid is a classic. Shaun on HP youtu.be/-1iaJWSwUZs Dan on The Snowman and Jenny on Fantastic Beasts 2 (if you haven't made it that far back yet) youtu.be/buYxGFWCWNg / youtu.be/QYUJ_ODfc8w Jacob on CoD youtu.be/FtCV421T52s Lindsay on Bright (or anything really) youtu.be/gLOxQxMnEz8

It's not exactly the same thing, but miniminuteman, aka Milo Rossi's take downs of pseudoarcheologists can scratch the same itch. youtube.com/@miniminutem...
