I'm expecting you to grow bigger and bigger, what will also add to your energy needs. Is there a strategy in place, like becoming energy independent? Do you care about the sustainability of your energy consumption? Cheers!

They understand, many don’t think the onus should be the people who *always* take it on the chin. And Bluesky’s evasiveness & unwillingness to speak candidly about this platforms recent dumb, reactionary shit. Glad for what you do! But consider being more honest about the whole right-wing thing

Other social apps such as X actively suppress links. This basically means if you share a picture post and a link post, the picture post is more likely to be found by others while the link post will mostly go under the radar. Purposeful hiding links is how I understand it.

Hey checking in on this because hiding legitimate lists, silently deleting posts critical of your admin and the retaliatory banning of users seems far worse than i anything twitter did pre-elon, and it certainly negates these positives you're citing here

If we can choose our own algorithms, why are you kowtowing to those that don't understand that and deciding to censor your "free web"? This reads as an incredibly tonedeaf statement to make after your ""fixes"" to bskys rules and guidelines.

It's not really an open web if you censor people, is it? If you really did like the free and open web, you'd roll back the censoring of NSFW art and comments about one specific American. Comon, now.

Historically speaking, censoring nsfw content is a direct attack on queer people as conservatives often label anything LGBTQIA+ as “adult content.” This is a bad, slippery slope you’re sliding on

You can't call it a free and open platform and go "we <3 open web" while arbitrarily banning any and all depictions of "fictional nonconsent" as if fictional scenarios aren't all eithing the realm of fantasy just like a scene set up ahead of time between consenting parties irl.

It's a genuinely good idea to give the users control over what they see, and I absolutely love AO3 for the immense amount of control they give me over my experience. Y'all had a great idea aiming in that direction but we need you to actually commit. Censorship will not benefit the users at all.

What does this mean? How on earth does one choose an algorithm? I barely understand what one of those things is. I just want to see posts from people I like and who post interesting photographs or who have erudite views. Sometimes they appear in my feed each day then vanish. It is tiresome.

There are about a dozen hyper insulated computer nerds who run Bluesky and they're absolutely in love with what they've created, but have no clue that a vast majority of people using it don't know how to write their own algorithm or even to look for one and would just like something that works.

Typically, they've created something that anyone can do anything on, as long as you have intimate knowledge of how it works. They have no conception of how most people would just like something that's simple and works without having to do everything yourself.

Still confused what the plan is for Bluesky to make money to repay investors with "free and open"? I know you're in the growth phase, but fearing the "squeeze for profits" phase will come soon. I remain optimistic, but cautious.

Jay, your content policy revisions suggest that you very much do not 💙 the open web, and the fact that no one on the team has addressed ANY of the thousands of replies to this post kind of confirms it bsky.app/profile/bsky...

Thank you to the 14,000+ people who shared feedback on our community guidelines! We’re updating our rules for clarity, strengthening enforcement, and introducing product changes for healthier conversations. New guidelines kick in Oct 15. bsky.social/about/blog/0...

It is good that you love the open web. I think it’s clear that this means your team should strongly oppose censorship, especially the puritanical sort that is being pushed by our current govt administration. The guidelines of TOS are becoming increasingly unclear and people are getting worried.

also the protocol is open source from what ive heard, so if they dont like it they can just make their own kinda like mastodon. not that anything here is too bad other than the moderation

I wish there was more consistancy with the videos here. Many won't play for me at all. Tried two different browsers. And it's gotten worse in the past week.

Free and open? You gave us the tools for moderating our pages. Gave us tags and settings to keep our work private or give fair warning to those who might come looking that they may not like what they see. And now you're taking those tools away to "sanitize" the platform. What about that is free?

4. your moderation system flags artistic nudity as sexual content and any appeals fall on deaf ears 5. you ask for feed back, artists and sex workers give feed back and you ignore it completely and go ahead with your vague AF rules and guidelines leaving them with zero sense of security

“Free and open” unless you mention the TOS changes and how they harm the artistic community on this platform. Then all of a sudden, critical comments seem to just disappear.

Then why are you censoring valid adult topics instead of creating more appropriate/specific filters? Your tools ensured people who didn't want to see them already aren't seeing them. You're only censoring it from people who want to see it

Your team is blocking my moderation list for blocking creepy transphobes. Honestly I don't have enough invested in this site to stick around if you're going to actively make this a hostile site for trans people... even to the point of just moving my account to a private server.

If I have to move to a whole-ass new server and set up moderation for myself, I'll just get started on Mastodon. You don't have enough here yet to just throw away minority users yet and expect them to stay in the ecosystem.

But can we fix random furry and porn stuff just showing up in people's feeds.. without any rhyme or reason? I don't consume or follow any NSFW stuff yet it shows up, and this is the same case for many many others as well. Especially furry barely censored stuff if you simply follow any form of art. 🤷‍♀️

Open isn’t the best word when your policies are rapidly ramping up to censor the works of hundreds of artists, simply because their work doesn’t fit your image of consent. You’re going to gut your artistic community that built this websites user base for you for the sake of, what, monetization?

Hey as an artist who draws explicit adult content, I fear this will prevent me from gaining a following despite it being my calling. This will do more harm than good, and feels like the site is being neutered. I want to stay, please don’t become like twitter or tumblr, be better

4. We'll ban you if you say that it was good that Hitler died 5. If you complain about it we'll tell you to start your own company, secure your own investors, make your own app, hire your own moderation team, and attract millions of your own users, because the protocol won't stop you

Non american accounts have been suspended for making negative (but mesured) comments on CK Also, one big french account have been suspended for... (check notes) making an joke on the resignation of the prime minister

Usability 101. Unless it is painfully obvious how to do something, the feature does not exist (for most people) I would venture a guess that 99.999% of Bluesky users have absolutely no idea how to choose their own algorithm from among thousands.

You are literally censoring the art and subjects we can discuss on this site. The current terms of service is exactly the opposite of the “open web” you’re proudly proclaiming here. So please, since you’re such a big advocate for user experience and freedom of speech, care to explain your actions?
