I'm not sure how big a factor it is but political & other bots may actually be able to takeover a system without enough guardrails It's primarily due to Elon being a 4chan troll type, who has gotten people to buy into his public townsquare BS In reality it's a billionaire's personal media network

When you think about the intent behind the mission and in this case behind the purchase of X, it makes complete sense that it collapsed so fast. X is now quite literally a right-wing government propaganda tool.

I left a number of months ago and even deleted it from my phone and thought I would just see if I missed it. Not once have I missed it. It's been great to leave it.

Most of the appeal of bsky seems to be the idea of a clean start and a "we won't make the same mistakes again" type vibe I don't have much long-term hope but, like Warcraft Classic, it'll be a nice nostalgia fix before we go right back to the same shit that made us all miserable

yeah I can't use it for long anymore, it's just such a degraded product now. I can't use Bluesky for long either cuz there really isn't much heterogeneity here yet but at least the app experience is less shitty

I lasted I think three or so days after the election, couldn't fucking stand it anymore because I realized it was just making me feel awful more often than not. Sure I do miss my frequent fandom based shitposts and various things that haven't been replicated here but it's so much more enjoyable.

I still have a Twitter account, and it's ok. I have horse racing, cats, flowers and people uplifting others. I do mute & block politics, especially US. I also hide, mute & block on Bluesky as well.

Also, with people actually starting to use Bluesky (I joined last year, but it was crickets), the difference in quality is so much more obvious now even with Bluesky only in its nascent stages with a lot of room for improvement.

It was like that 6 months ago when I left the cesspool for good.

I deactivated on twitter but have another account that I've never used that I've checked a few times since I left. The "for you" page is almost entirely elon posts, bitcoin scams, racism, temu ads, and videos of women getting punched in the face.

Deactivating is much better. Hit Twitter where it matters most. It's easy to look and see if those you follow on Twitter are here.

I cross checked everyone I followed before I deactivated - I went through the list and looked people up and most people are here or they tend to pop up if someone else shares/comments on their posts.

I deleted the Twitter app a few months ago. I reinstalled yesterday in order to deactivate. It requires me to put in my password to deactivate, but I couldn't remember it. So, I just deleted the app again.
