since California ballots are now out: prop 40 is the billionaire tax, and you should vote yes to stick it to them but both props 41 and 42 are designed to retroactively cancel the billionaire tax because they’re afraid they can’t beat it at the ballot box yes on 40, no on 41 and 42

I wrote this yesterday, about sexual assault and the people who turn a blind eye. About the abject failure to teach our youth how to disrupt the group chat or protect the drink at the bar. And the need to do better. We need to teach our children. 1/ dot-connecting.ghost.io/the-silent-p...

USPS’s job is to deliver the mail even if some mailed ballots genuinely are fake, illegal, fraudulent, or otherwise invalid. It’s on election administrators to catch and reject those, and they do. USPS has no role in it and the very idea mucks up the systems we actually have for election integrity.

Paul Waldman@paulwaldman.bsky.social

I understand the confidence about how this will all end, but I'm still livid at the Postmaster General for having the gall to say the USPS has the right to decide who gets to vote, when the USPS's actual job is to DELIVER THE GODDAMN MAIL, including every ballot, whether Donald Trump likes it or not

Many community fridges have a variety of volunteer opportunities, from cleaning the fridges to picking up and dropping off food. And even if you don't have the time/energy to volunteer regularly, you can still cook/bake/buy food and drop if off whenever you're up for it.

Oregon water managers need to drive a harder bargain with these data centers. Like, if they're using 40% of the water, they ought to be purchasing 80% of a water recycling plant to feed their cooling systems and remove pressure on drinking water systems.

Mike Rogoway@rogoway.bsky.social

Google’s Oregon data centers drank a lot more water in The Dalles last year – they now use 40% of all the city’s water, and climbing. City leaders and conservationists disagree about the implications of Google’s enormous thirst. But they agree the company’s secrecy continues sowing distrust.

Next time someone asks you about energy and land use, maybe remind them that the ~35 million acres that currently grow corn for ethanol in the US could produce ~15 PWh per year of electricity from solar photovoltaics. That's ~3.5 times more than *total annual generation from all US power plants*.
