Today, I'm introducing the first-ever Data Center Bill of Rights. Communities deserve the right to reject data centers, protect their water, keep electricity bills down, and prevent states from shoving data centers down their throats.

Please add to the SCBOR to build them in those communities where those who want them... here's your center. Start with Mar-a-Largo. And thank you Rep.Khanna, working for the people. 🌞💙

It’s the sensible approach that gives us the opportunity to go forward. We’re lying to ourselves if we think we don’t need these data centers. They’re coming anyway so at the very least a concrete bill that structures for our protection is what’s needed now It’s like he works for the people!

This will do shit all for red states. We don't need a data center bill of rights, we need strong, effective regulation on data centers, including power and water usage, and heat emissions. They need to pay infrastructure and other excess costs, it needs to protect our environment and wallets.

Let me enlighten you then by telling you the entire internet runs off data centers scattered throughout the world. For example, there are at least 80 different Google Data Centers worldwide.

Please force the data centers to use solar or wind energy to power themselves. Don’t allow them to get away with powering and cooling their centers on the cheap at our expense. We never asked for these centers!

Make them cogenerate, every 1 of them. I can't even imagine what they're doing 2property values; people will be locked into their homes forever, or sell at discount. Why don't u maybe propose creation of a true regulatory body to oversee AI, before they, ya know, accelerate us out of existence.

Most of these data centers are being thrown together in the hopes of being sold to the ever expanding future needs of AI for a quick buck. Owner transfer issues need to be included too.

The data centers, the ballroom, the tariffs, the war, our healthcare, the promotion of AI, the attack on free speech, the attack on voting rights, the dismantling of agencies designed to protect us, the elevation of the oligarchy...all of this and so much more. The breaking point has been reached.

I can go for that! It's only fair citizens have a say if they want their water contaminated or their electric bills to skyrocket while destroying nature or using government domain rules to take away land from homeowners or businesses. NOVEMBER IS COMING! VOTE FOR YOUR LIVES!

YOU'RE JUST LICKING THEIR ASSES WITH THIS BANDAID NONSENSE. NOBODY IN THEIR RIGHT FUCKING MIND BELIEVES THEY WILL OBEY OR THAT THE BROKEN, CORRUPTED, PLUTOCRATIC CONGRESS & COURTS ARE GOING TO ENFORCE ANYTHING TO STOP THE PLAN TO CREATE AN AUTOMATED, UBIQUITOUS SURVEILLANCE STATE.

For new DCs math & ordinance could be used to control. A baseline exists for electric usage in a community. A $ per KWH rate. A DC could be limited/charged for the KWH $ rate increases, or % they exceed the baseline. Same could be done for water & even noise (decibels). Exceed limits & pay bigly...

The water, land, electricity are one thing. The collection, control, manipulation of citizens’ information and resources - private and otherwise- is a whole other level. These data centers are entirely about access, control, and power. Fast track to fascist slavery.

We need a national moratorium on data centers and AI legislation that keeps this garbage from enshittifying the internet & being used for mass surveillance.

@rokhanna.bsky.social, consider the challenge in this 2-pt 🧵as the bill is debated and potentially revised. (Hope it helps) bsky.app/profile/mari...

RE: Data center deals in darkness. 🧵 1/2 The problem to be solved is most state sunshine laws exempt real estate deals from disclosure. That's because, once disclosed, people will buy the property from the affected property owners, then charge the government (i.e. taxpayers) 30% more.

Water, electricity and gas for citizens before corporate data center expansion! Yes! Corporations must consider their rights co-equal to other citizens since the old gilded era Supremes and Romney call them “citizens” with rights. 🇺🇸🕊️

The data center push is an example of “Shoot first and ask questions later” by the tech industry. I have heard about China building them without the need to use community water resources. Are we too proud to ask how? Human needs should not be considered optional expenses for companies to exploit.

100% agree, thank you! And though it might mean that my brain is broken from being online, I do keep expecting you to back up and disappear in the hedge.

Data centers are only a symptom of a bigger problem. Cities and townships routinely move things into our neighborhoods against our wishes that are not so loudly protested as data centers are. Stop the big interest money from buying our neighborhoods out from under us

Hmmm...why are we giving Data Center's rights? Another example of poor framing/messaging that conveys the opposite. If only we could take a lesson from the Repubs on this...like their Orwellian "Clean Skies Act" or the "One Big Beautiful Act"

The largest data center in the world is breaking ground in Texas. They will have 93 gas turbines and 4 full-scale NUCLEAR REACTORS, even though it's a private company. How? Because Trump has been systematically deregulating nuclear energy. Do we even really know what dc's are for? We have AI.

It's going to get pretty f*ing interesting down there when they get halfway done with those big projects and start to realize that THERE ISN'T ENOUGH WATER to run them. And I don't mean "public outcry because their water bills go up". I mean empty reservoirs and low tap pressure.

I would add a provision that says it the data center generates its own power using solar, recirculates its cooling water, and provides noise abatement down to (say) 55 dB, then their application can be considered.

I’d expect as solar panels become more efficient, the number needed to run these surveillance collectors will decrease… Options : cover each roof of these ginormous monstrosities with solar panels before spreading out into the country side…🤯

I know it's popular to act like the only purpose of these facilities is for stuff like Flock, but it's simply not true. As for rooftop solar, that's basically a rounding error compared to the actual amount needed. Solar panel efficiency just isn't going to improve enough to change that either

there are practical limits to efficiency, though. In the US, the sun provides ~0.24W/m^2 at 100% efficiency. Meaning a single 20MW datacenter would require 20 acres of panels (or 100 acres at 20% efficiency).

That's not really happening. There's a quantum physics limit around 33 % efficiency for single-layer cells. Current monocrystalline silicon panels are 23ish % efficient. The trend is to push down panel cost as low as it will go so that you can simply bury the problem under thousands of panels.

Data Centers don't need rights. People, and their communities, already have the right to ban noise and chemical polluting, water usurping data centers. Utility bills area already high-- at a time of high inflation-- which, with this adminstration's endless joy in increasing debt-- will go higher.

Here's a thought for you, why don't you introduce the first ever "Corruption is a Crime in Congress" bill and start holding people accountable? Communities deserve the right to have open, honest, and truthful constituents. We don't want grifters and crooks.

Its bad enough Oregon is pushing for them. Even mailing data center propaganda out to us. Saying how they will "pitch in". What they always fail to tell us is it doesn't matter if they pay 100% their share (&should), they will still use up all the water & electricity & force us to ration.BillsRaise📈

When you say protect water, a hyperscale data centre uses the same water as an 18 hole golf course, but provides billions in value and employs more people. So, why singling out data centres?

Data centers employ highly-skilled people. Golf courses employ low-skill people, many of them students working low-skill part-time jobs while acquiring advanced skills. Unscrupulous politicians appeal to simple-minded, easily-manipulated voters who are terrified of learning anything new.

Tucson & Marana, AZ are fighting own City Council & County Supervisors to prevent AI Data centers being built in city limits and county. Data centers use MILLIONS of gal. of water PER DAY. Southern AZ cities are desert oasis' and Data centers will rapidly deplete our irreplaceable aquifers. Insane!

The only way the centers can keep electricity down is to add solar and wind mills. But how will they reduce water consumption? What happens during droughts and they drain our water tables?

It's good to see so many other states deliberately hobbling their own technological progress. This will give my state more of an advantage in the future.

Data center reps have contacted our city council about building here in Modesto, CA. Protest and march to city council meeting on Tues 8/11. We are an ag community and already have water issues.

I agree but the name of this bill of rights is problematic as it sounds like you are introducing rights to data centers. Why not call this bill of rights something like: Bill of Rights for the Environment, or Bill of Rights to Clean Air, Water and Natural habitats? Just spitballing here.

David is a fucking moronic doomsday cult leader. ai slop can't replace people in any capacity, it only copies the worst people so it cannot even come close to matching human capabilities. The problem is y'all stopped listening to the real experts on everything.

Consider a bill for Earth & we human animals who respect 4.6 BIL yrs of optimization of conditions for abundant life & try to protect her balances. Restore our rts so that waters, lands & lives can never again be stolen for sadistic, perversely unnatural, deadly, filthy, climate-heating, Animal Ag

Same goes for the UK We need water and a planet not on fire, we do not need the heat producing, water guzzling Data Centres to live.

Please research what’s happening in Westlake, Texas. Their P&Z just approved, on another city’s boundary lines and just 500 feet from wetlands and a neighborhood and school, a proposed data center. The Keller citizens will be the ones affected by this center!

Democrats are not going to lead us out of the darkness. Only accountability can lead us to higher ground and that means high level politicians going to prison for crimes against humanity, when that starts happening, the tide is turning, but not until then.

Just BAN ALL the suckers until 21st century advances bring "AI facilities" down in SIZE, SAFETY and EFFICIENCY the way 1950’s computers were brought down to the size of cell phones.

That's amazing. I would have loved for the DNC to announce something similar next week but they killed my data center resolution. Hopefully we can get them on board the next meeting to meet the moment on data centers.
