That argument was made and accepted long ago - it was a primary issue for the Dems. Except one dem, Biden, who won and said I'm not a fan of expanding the Supreme Court. Unsurprisingly, gun control was overturned and Roe rights were overturned and Biden still wasn't a fan.

Virginia has a VRA Section 2 district, #VA03. It is possible the Callais ruling from SCOTUS will allow these districts to be used or allow the legislature to hold an emergency legislative session to fix this constitutional defect.

No need to comply while appeals are in process. Trump used this to great effect in his own trials. If the ruling comes back negative, appeal again on different grounds. rinse and repeat until it's too late to change the plan for this November.

It's about equal protection. If it's good for 1 state to cancel election & make new maps unilaterally on emergency basis, it should be good for others no matter what. If it's not about Congress that can make laws & budget that impacts all, then everyone could have their own rules.

The court chose to nit pick the law, basing it's decision on a minor point in the Virginia Constitution. It was an error by the folks that drew up the initiative. They have to go back and fix their mistake and try again.

For the sake of the record it needs to be done but I wouldn't hold my breath for SCOTUS to confirm we have voting rights that they can't cancel.

They ruled in favor for California. If they reject Virginia's appeal, it would open up every red state to massive lawsuits. It would backfire on the GOP spectacularly

Redistrict anyway until the SC takes it up. Then the court has two choices either they stop all redistricting or they allow the voters vote to redistrict stand over ruling the VA court.
