I'm sure there will be no long-term consequences to all of us veering between hypervigilance over potential nuclear war and trying to go to work because none of us can afford to pay our bills and may still be trying to recover from health consequences from the pandemic we're pretending didn't happen

Okay, so here's the thing. What if we name them after our offline coping methods? One of them should be named Pokopia. Or Animal Crossing. Or Stardew Valley. Name one for a cute and cozy switch game, is my suggestion.

I'm getting a lot of people correcting me on my wording of the pandemic part because I didn't say "still happening" but I would argue that pretending it never happened also inherently implies it could not still be happening. We're not just acting like it's over. We're acting like it never was.

We had a mass casualty event and even if it HAD literally ended and we all just went back to normal like we have? That would be fucking unhinged. But as someone who almost died from long covid, yeah, I also don't love we're ALSO pretending it isn't still happening!

I'm a big fan of either old lady names OR pop culture references that you can work "hen" into. Basically the most cliche of chickie names. You can't have sweet or sour tho, those are my feathered peckers.

there was no real statistical chance in that district that they wouldn't, but I believe this time it was by a much smaller margin. the kind of leftward shift that would wreck the GOP in any swing district.

Yes! especially since they are continuing to strip ecological and health protections while destroying the science-research-infrastructure my family depends on, and selling off all of the public lands and compromising all of the nature preserves. I want to scream ALL Day Long.

I know none of those things is as immediately bad as murder and war crimes, urgency wise? Like the ongoing fucking mess caused internationally by shuttering USAID? But I am mourning so many things that will make my kids' futures worse and the planet poorer.

There are none today. We'll see / suffer from them in good time, and remark "...gee I guess that was something we should have done something about."

Throw in a couple possible diagnoses that involve tumors and electrolytes that just keep randomly crashing and necessitating ER visits and blood work every few days + being soul support of a household and *sobs*. If I survive this decade it'll be a miracle.
