"CENTRISTS UNITE!" It's 15 people. 5 of whom aren't even elected yet. All of them in districts trump won. Don't let corporate media - especially media owned by Bezos - convince you the party is somehow fractured by throngs of centrists pushing back. It's not. www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...

washingtonpost.comAfter wins by democratic socialists, centrist Democrats unite to push backThirteen Democratic House members and candidates announced their support for an initiative that commits them to centrist principles.

“If these socialists Democrats win, then we centrists might actually have to do something other than say “both sides” and cash our various checks by tax payers and private interest groups! Waah.” Gtfo with these centrists, I say!

Why can’t everyone just acknowledge that no true districts are the same? In some districts of progressive is exactly the right candidate, and another district centrist is more likely to be the appropriate candidate? This push for one size fits. All candidates is seriously misguided.

Every single fucking time we get one damn thing from the Democratic Party that we can be happy about and feel a little proud of the Democratic Party, they have to turn around and do some shit like this. Every single fucking time.

So stupid. What exactly don’t they like? Is helping people with affordable childcare too radical? Funding libraries, and teachers too radical? Freezing rent for a short period just too radical? Filling all the potholes and directly hiring people to remove the snow at a good wage?

Fuvk Suozzi. He just got here. How does he know what’s best for anyone? This narrative and Islamophobia until the midterms. Anything for Collins, which means they keep real power.

Quit tone policing private citizens who have every right to point out that Centists are being assholes. Jesus Christ, did you graduate kindergarten last week? Are you telling us to hold hands and sing songs because Trump is a fascist? Stop being a weirdass, unless folks are refusing to vote.

A dozen or so lawmakers are insufficient to drive a major "split"; the media amplifies the voices of centrists primarily to generate buzz, rather than to reflect the true balance of power within the party.

Agree but comments from some like Hakeem Jeffries and Ritchie Torres don’t help. Blue no matter who, right? It’s not bash those voters choose to represent them and then vote blue no matter who. Get on board or get out of the way.

The point isn't that it's a huge group, but that the Democratic party will be supporting and campaigning for 15 people whose views are at odds with the party's registered voters. They should be cut loose. If they're so in love with capitalism, let them pay their own way for their campaigns.

Just to say the quiet part out loud, "centrists" dems are not centrists. They are the professional managerial class which serves capital. They are radical in said support and have no other core value, just (mostly failed) attempts at triangulation.

The Nordic countries are primarily Social Democrat systems . . . they are consistently among the happiest people on the planet . . . They have universal healthcare, education, childcare & they protect against wealth concentration, exploitation of workers & poverty . . . What’s not to like? 🤷‍♀️

It's just a shame so many of the recent democratic socialist candidates to win primaries in the US are unable to say that they support Ukraine against russia's genocidal war of conquest. This isn't a criticism of democratic socialism in general. Just the current US flavour.

Yes, it feels like a Sophie's choice for me. A party that unquestionably has tankies in leadership and policy platform or a party that have failed and will fail to protect democracy. The DSA has some pretty solid candidates, though, and I only hope the party drops their USSR fetish quickly.

hunh. and what would those centrist "principles" be? last i saw, they included "market oriented economic policies" and a strong military. this differs from standard Rs how, exactly??

☝️this, been saying all along it’s been an overreaction to what I’m not even sure, the 15 centrists put out a statement, they are pro LE, capitalism and Israel, fine…but what about, lowering costs, healthcare, planning for climate changes, AI pollution and data centers? what’s the plan?

I don’t like people in my party spewing stupid shit best uttered by a trumplican. I don’t think they know their own party members. Leads me to believe they actually only represent rich people.

I said this before the the primaries. Support what ever candidate you want, but if that candidate doesn’t win support the party. remember the enemy of my enemy is my friend.

We Dems—including Dem voters who vote Dem Socialist—are just fine. We’re just progressing. We are all so very done with Trump & Co. We don’t need the freak-out of aged consultants. We have our own trustworthy media, thank you very much. We are voting our own minds and hearts.

Yes-But many Dems are from places where Dems & Indies (whose votes may be needed) may fear "socialism" or conflate it as "communism" thanks to media. Whoever decided to label Prog Dems as Socialists or members of the "DSA" should be fired. Dem? Prog? Dem Socialist? They STUPIDLY made this harder.

I’ll never understand how establishment dems let their values be defined by right-wing messaging (and not their constituents) It’s time for offense not constant defense. WTH?

Democrats don't come in one flavor and the Dems have different styles. It's OK! The only thing you can be certain about with Democrats is that they will not include Trump worship and will not support an IT technocracy or cult Christians ruling the country! I know of only one exception to that rule.

Every election cycle it’s the same script. Five people disagree on tactics and suddenly we’re supposed to believe the Democratic Party is in a full-blown civil war. Conflict sells. Context doesn’t.

Well look at the other side of the aisle: authoritarians who follow the leader without question as soon as one of them establishes himself as top monkey. Republicans are rarely in “disarray” because so few of them ever bother to think.

HEY IT’S RICK@heyitsrick.bsky.social

It’s absolutely pathetic that we live in a country where centrist Democrats and Republicans watch this and would support Mr. Potter over George Bailey. There is so much dysfunction and conditioning in this country that those who want to be PATRIOTS and help ALL Americans are demonized.

I’ve never seen a group so unwilling, NOT unable, to learn one goddamned thing. I’ve never seen a group as dedicated to their greed as establishment Dems. I’ve never been as disappointed as I am by establishment Dems.

What are centrist principles.? Are they not for the common, education, a safe environment, social security, Medicare, medicaid, separation of state and church,? Dividing the party trump wins. Democrats have always been diversified. That's the beauty of the Democratic party and Democracy.

It’s shocking how many commentators go to this ‘far left’ or progressive narrative! In the UK Bernie and AOC would virtually be moderates!

The Dems need to have a strategy for addressing the ‘socialist are coming to eat your dogs and cats’ or other centrists concerns. Address them and talk about what their plans or for the district they’re representing. Quit the hysteria

The five that aren’t elected as of yet who signed up no one‘s request. Just sunk their campaigns. DSA is winning all over. Establishment candidates state: I am gonna come out against DSA and run against them”… dumbasses.

I'm a progressive and know we need the Centerists to win and hope the Democrats stay an all inclusive party. That said I'm loving every second of watching Chuck Schumer, Hakeem Jeffries, and others wring their hands over the primary results. We need fresh blood and ideas not the same old shit!

I mean Obama is the quintessential moderate democratic and he fully has embraced Mamdani, so I don't know why people keep falling for the "the establishment" Bezos fueled narrative.

I agree. The Republicans and now the. corporatist Democrats are running scared. The voters are done with the do nothing Democratic party and want significant change. Mamdani has shown us that his policies work for working Americans and it has been so long since working Americans had support.

Gillen is my district. She has not convictions. She will say or do whatever she thinks will work best for her to stay in her job. Same with Suozzi. He’s smoother but the same game plan. There are no leaders here.

Democrats all need to unite and support each other. Liberals and centrists need to all pull together. Centrists calm down. Democratic Socialists are not communists. They are not even strictly socialists. Democratic Socialists are equivalent to normal Liberal politicians throughout Europe.

I can’t read the post because I’m walled off. But Suozzi is just like Manchen in a lot of other reported centrist Democrats. Their sheep and wolves clothing and are more interested in the fake collegiality of the Senate or the House of Representatives the they are and what’s good for America.

Quit with the infighting. Jeeeze! Either expose your throat to billionaires & Republicans, or vote Democrat. No two people agree 100% on everything. Accept there are different ways to be a Democrat; different ways to serve Americans. Republicans only serve themselves & the rich.

If Schumer is a Centrist and AOC is a progressive, then I am definitely on the side of progressives. Schumer is just one more dinosaur and he will take the USA down with his support for Israel and their war crimes.

Call me crazy but I think having a bunch of smaller caucuses representing the interests and needs of their constituency is good and appropriate representative democracy in action. We’re working toward the same goal and disagree on implementation generally. Discussion is hallmark of democracies!

If Dem voters fall for these nonsense stories by the GOP operatives (which will continue) then we have problems with the Dem voters. Not uncommon to have internal frictions within a political party. Personally, don’t care about these 15 politicians. People decides who they want to vote for.

Can we simply elect some decent folks as often as possible in the future? OC, avoid Uber Republicans, MAGAS, & criminals. We don't want to lose by clawing each other's eyes out!

10 equals less than 5% I imagine these ‘centrists’ (or, more correctly, ‘conservative’ democrats) are more likely to view their positions as dominant since they need to be shielded from tough votes. I would view their positions as marginal for that reason

All politics is local. Important not to get too carried away by campaigns/victories of DSA or Chamber of Commerce Democrats. The Democrats who get elected are the ones that get support from voters in their districts. AOC could not win in Suozzi's district & vice-versa.

Ideally sure, but problem is if its a centrist dominated win, we're back here again in 2 to 4 years. We're past the point where centrist incrementalism is going to maintain any longer term majority. Huge structural issues have to be dealt with especially economically, and that's their major failing

When Newt Gingrich shifted the GOP to the right during Clinton's terms, he didn't ask what moderate Republicans wanted to do. When Boehner and Ryan battled Obama, they whipped their members to lurch ever more to the right. The Dems can't go left because most of them are bought by corporations.

And that's the problem with America today. Regardless of Democratic or Republican parties, they're corporate owned and will work to achieve the aims of corporations. That's why Americans can't have the nice things people from other nations enjoy and take for granted as normal.

Both moderate and progressive Democrats can help beat MAGA at the polls and move our country in the proper (more humane and inclusive) direction. Any policy differences within the democratic coalition can be ironed out later.

Each faction has valid points as the MSM exploits them. Schumer & his type of leadership has to go! He was no Harry Reid! He more or less gave the keys to McConnell & Trump. Having said that Mamdani being treated like a kingmaker is also overblown- his crowd won in record low turnout in Blue NY

My view at the moment is everyone quit the squabbling. There's more at stake than being socialist or centrist. Whatever works in your district to oust the Republicans. Once that is done THEN you can argue.
