Congress can’t indict people. They can have hearings and impeachment trials. But not criminal trials. Please don’t expect criminal trials and then blame democrats when you don’t get them. Midterms are step one. We have to win in 2028 and add seats to SCOTUS to hold people criminally accountable.

This omg. I’ve been swatting down posts like this on threads left and right. They’re also saying things like, “vote for Dems for lower gas prices.” 🤦🏻‍♀️ when I say there will still be a war going on, “they can impeach him. They can pass green energy legislation.” I’m already 😱 for ‘28.

You are right. Trump's regime has so perverted our life, it cannot be rectified quickly. The Middle East will still be a hotbed; gas still high; groceries still high. A new Congress could change SCOTUS, I think. Impose term limits; age limitations. Must research more. But Trump will still be Prez.

Right, I don’t think Congress can override a veto. 2028 is when we can make real changes. But hearings and investigations and stopping his worst legislation is the focus for 2027-2029.

We can certainly start in 2027 with investigations to bring things to light, then in 2028 with a new POTUS who says "NOBODY GETS A PARDON," though. We’re sick of lack of accountability.

Next up how doing nothing is winning for Democrats and the status quo and being really still is winning! Boy I hope we get Jeffries to talk more to non elected leaders like Jared Kushner of what he wants! Then maybe we can have Schumer take more AIPAC money and help Israel too! /sarcasm

Fuck this. Seriously fuck it. This idea of telling everyone already: "Look the GOP can ignore laws and do what it wants. But we are just going to not do anything cuz it will take a while." WTF elect you then? Next up: "How giving a Democrat a ball and telling them to hit it out of the park /1

is too hard an assignment and they will explain in great detail about the history of baseball while someone steals the ball and bat and just destroys everything around them while they talk more." THIS IS EXACTLY the reason I want DSA and no traditional Democrats. They talk about losing before/2

they even win. Wow what a great job of stating why no one likes Democrats more. Have to also have a super long explanation of how David Hogg was just a little too liberal and wanted too much change. Hey are you going to have Schumer and Pelosi elected again to vote for Israel and ICE more?

Impeachment & Removal is not about criminal justice, but setting boundaries on the Executive Branch and Administrative agencies. Yes, there are other tools Congress can and should use, but hearings give us facts, and a chance to speak truth to power and build political will to craft useful reform.

Thank you for spelling this out. We need to make sure people have reasonable expectations of what a Blue Way in the midterms can and cannot do. We can't let people get disillusioned before 2028. That would spell disaster.

True, but Congressional power to investigate can expose information that can lead the way to state investigations and charges. We need to hold Dems’ feet to the fire, if we’re able to turn out our voters in November.

They can also use war power to enforce the automatic constitutional disqualification for insurrection. It only requires a majority vote of both houses. Purging Congress does not require a majority only those who are loyal to the Constitution to make a stand.

It would help if the media accurately reported upon this instead of relying on stupid commentary from Anderson that does not include anything related to the inherent authority of Congress. The military just needs authority and they will do it.

Posts like these attract the gop stooges posing as democrats saying; "ask your candidate if they are going to do this, if they won't, don't vote for them and never vote for democrats again!"

agreed!!! that should go for our "news" companies.. fact checked, confronted and if not corrected immediately, widely, taken off the stage.. it's one thing to have free speech, it's a totally different thing to intentionally lie.. we have a hard road ahead of us..🤬

As noted in other replies, referrals to DOJ are worthless, since its lawyers work directly for Trump now. And even a Dem Congress can’t pass a law without Trump. So they will have to do defense: Stop the $ from flowing.

Already not looking forward to the coming “why haven’t the dems fixed everything I’m staying home in 28” posts when they will only control one branch of government

But they CAN stop meeting with Jared Kushner. They CAN stop carrying water for a government committing genocide. And they CAN stop the performative politics and level consequences for rogue government officials. But they will most likely not do any of those things.

If Democrats in Congress keep promising what they cannot deliver they will send a life line to Trump and the Republicans in 28. the words impeachment and trials should be banned. It's all about the economy and stopping Trump in his tracks. By all means release the Epstein files.

Amen, sister. Keep your eye on the ball. Focus on the midterms. Do everything you can to help everyone to VOTE. Drive those unable, show how to get and fill out a ballot. VOTE VOTE VOTE.

Oh you already know people will have unrealistic expectations for the Dems right out the gate, wanting their pound of flesh immediately. This is how it goes. Republicans destroy everything, Dems have to clean up, and it's never fast enough for voters' liking, and then Republicans come back.

Every time the Democrats regain some power after a period of Republican destruction, they only ever have 2 years to right the ship and begin to fix things before the American people swing back and give the Republican'ts control of Congress again!

No one is handing the Democrats shit and Republicans that write things of that sort are only writing them due to trump‘s so-called policies affecting them instead of just the ones they are prejudiced against.

Even if impeached in the House, it taker 2/3 vote in Senate to remove him. 2/3 of those members in attendance. So, just talk Repubs into staying home & Dems could remove him. Or, pick a day Trump meets with GOP only Congress members and do the vote then, as GOP Senators will be busy.

Republicans acheived the overturn of Roe v. Wade through a multi-decadal effort of single-issue voting in every single election. Literally 50 years of steady voting in the face of continual disappointment and failure. If you don't want it as bad as they did, you'll never get what you want, people.

Agreed. Congress cannot arrest anyone. I think the anxiety among Dems / liberals etc. is that Dems win & then say "It's time to move on from all this unpleasantness" or the GOP goes into obstruction mode (as they always do) & the Dems say "Welp. We tried, but we can't do anything without GOP help."

💯❗️ Modern democrats in Congress. 👿(save for a few) It’s the opposite of Lockstep Republic*nts, which is INFINITELY worse.. I would say the sentiment of the original post is correct. Stand together & do EVERYTHING in your f*cking power to restore The Rule of Law & the path towards Justice❗️#onejob❗️

True. Which is why Dems shouldn't waste time with investigations and impeachments, unless they somehow come up with a supermajority. Expand the court. Repeal Citizen's United. Universal Healthcare. These are the immediate priorities.

This right here is the problem, we tell them what we're going to do next and then they plan for it. It's how the Heritage Foundation & The Federalist Society plotted to take over the government. Watching posts like this for years & buying everything up in the private sector.

They've made a whole private industry, a whole private government, so when they aren't in power they filing lawsuits. They're buying stocks. They're buying up media companies. They're putting their people on The Boards. Then filling the companies with their friends and their kids. Controlling media.

Democrats, Socialists, whatever. We're not organized. We don't have the money they do. They've been doing this shit for years and the American electorate has a short memory & will believe anything. We're lucky they're so stupid because they fucked up so bad. We have chance to take some power back.

The Department of Justice is fully controlled by Trump. Until that changes, there will be no justice. Perhaps Congress could remove it, and the FBI, and many other parts of the government, from executive control?

The only "locking up" capability congress has is inherent contempt. That can only lock people up until the end of the session. Even then the DOJ will probably just refuse to lock them up. So I guess we have the Sgt at Arms set up a jail in the capitol?

If you think we're making it to 2028 I have some meme coin to sell you...that's why D's should be stopping everything and anything..not funding his regime here and there etc ...we will need mass protests (see Georgia) before to long

True. But impeachments lead to Senate trials and convictions. But don’t spend as much time on that as on passing bills that would help Americans and which Trump will veto. Set up the 2028 campaign!

Thank you! The unreasonable expectations set up to then stoke frustration and anger against the people who are doing what they can But what they can do is investigate and set up criminal cases that can be brought after 2029 or by State AGs. They can impeach boobs…

It's many steps and lots of different agencies, remember who is in the DOJ, DOJ and FBI. Many things need to be changed and fixed before we completely clean out the rot and corruption.

You can break something in no time. It takes time to rebuild what was destroyed. That is the problem the Dems are going to have. They need to come out everyday and scream it at the top of their lungs that the Republicans broke shit and it takes time to repair the huge damage that they have done.

This is both accurate and yet exactly what I worry the next two years will look like if Dems win Congress. It'll take longer than two years to fix anything, Trump will block most of it, and the same sentiment about Trump and the GOP still blaming Biden in 2026 will get parroted by the GOP in 2028.

The answer is right there. Break stuff. Break Donald Trump’s stuff. Break the Nazis, too. America doesn’t have until 2028 election, inauguration in 2029, then appointments, and bureaucracy. This government is the enemy of the people. No time to wait, and assume the constitution still functions.

Democrats in congress aren’t coming to save you. If they are, it can’t happen fast enough. If it can, the fascists can obstruct and continue sabotage, crime, and oppression in 4 years. The constitution failed when January 6th perpetrators were allowed back into the Whitehouse. They’re not leaving.

Those dummies impeached him TWICE, passed the most significant legislation since LBJ and Schumer pushed thru the judges that are currently keeping Dump at bay! They did their friggin jobs the “genocide Joes”, “uncommitted”and 77 million knuckleheads did not do THEIR jobs!

And don't be shocked no one shows up for the hearings. Since democrats don't control the injustice department, there are zero enforcement mechanisms for nonconformity and no consequences of contempt of congress. Zero. Repeat. Zero. I'm not convinced Johnson seats winning democrats anyway.

Those are good things, but it'll take time. Business and Trump, along with the GOP at all levels and organizations like Heritage Foundation, have destroyed a lot of the federal government. If you're expecting a clean house in the next couple of years, you're a bit over-hopeful. Let's start tho.

However, I believe that if during the Congressional hearings - it's discovered that a state or civil statute was violated - the records can be sent to a state AG wherein the alleged crime or civil harm occurred. A slow process, certainly. But there is a recourse.

According to news the DNC is in debt. I do not donate to the DNC because they are throwing the money at the schumers and Jefferies. Carville and his ilk are fighting like hell to keep the old men elected, pulling their wages and blaming their laziness on others

People are talking like they did for Biden/Trump. What happened then? The Democrats went around town doing nothing because they did not have the numbers. They didn't even try to get the GOP to vote with them. Meanwhile Half Dead Mitch would get the votes he needed. the Schumer Special.

So just accept that nothing can be done and accept the corruption? The court won't get expanded and if the dems can pass any legislation in the next two years it will be naming something. I'm concerned that you don't appreciate that we have 6yrs left as a country if we don't do something radical.

People do not want to see a return to normalcy because that's what weve been fed and its obviously a load of shit. Every single nuance and detail to push back that is available to them must be used. No funding, no appointments, nothing for the GOP. Anything less will be viewed as complicity.

I heard recently, might have been from Jamie Raskin, that Congress can SUE individuals. Is that true Allison? If so, are plans in place or coming together? Would be a news story worth breaking on November 4th. Rapeublicans will shit their pants!

The dems aren’t even going to win a filibuster-proof majority. They will have a majority, but it will not make passing bills a slam dunk. People need to manage their expectations.

If we get a Democratic President we need to overhaul how we police the Presidency. Trump is committing crimes on a daily basis. We cannot ever be at the mercy of a madman again!

All this talk of adding seats to scotus, why not hold the current scotus accountable and impeach the members who have engaged in such blatant corruption? What good is more seats if there are no standards for those who fill them?

If memory serves, The reason its currently 9, is because that's how many district courts there was at the time of the last change. Theres at least 13 now, so adding 4 more makes sense.

Fine but I still don’t see how you can have sitting justices participating in blatant corruption and expect the outcomes of cases to be legitimate. I’d rather not get to a place where a future D appointed justice is bought out by the same people who pay for Scalia and Alito.

Were I in charge, I'd vacate ALL Seats, then have each ex-justice go sit and be RE-Confirmed, and put in place a rule that is a automatic reconfirm every 5 years. Either that, or start electing Supremes like states do.

I don't read it as wanting Congress to indict people. We're just tired of the "high road" because it's gotten us nowhere with that base. Accountability isn't only indictments. Congress can do plenty that could lead to them, and we want to see it!

“High road” doesn’t mean don’t be tough or demand accountability, it just means to use truth and not become the fascists they are but on our side as many people are asking us to be. If the argument is to throw out laws and the Constitution to do what you think is right to save the country, you lost

I didn’t read this as asking Congress to indict people. I read it as dems not trying to turn the page and let bygones be bygones. There needs to be some accountability for all the shit this administration has done.

Get rid of corporate funding or that’s what u get! Ur expecting senators not to accept bribes I don’t know where u grew up but rarely do pesay “oh no I don’t want any more money!”

Until we get a President who nominates someone as AGl of this country who is not partisan in any way (Dem or Repub) should not be on his or her resume; the government of the US can't bring indictments. I wish someone would start a civics class & teach people what the government can and cannot do.

First step is MIDTERMS! So unless we all get out and flood the streets with BLUE VOTES nothing else matters! This is what we need for the Midterm election!

We need this message repeated everywhere. Otherwise we are setting Dems up for failure if everyone expects everything to go back to normal after midterms

Democrats need to list out 10 things they will do if they take the House and another 10 for the Senate. They should focus on two things: accountability and affordability. And then it’s about the Presidency in 28 and reforming the Supreme Court.

One thing that can and must be done in January 2027 to move forward and mark a new era is a refresh of Dem Congressional leadership. If Jeffries and Schumer remain in charge, the Nov 2026 election will have been for nought. Time to lose the word salads and toss out the prevent defense.

You’d need 60 votes in the Senate to get it past the filibuster. Or Democrats, who are willing to get rid of the filibuster. I can’t just remove the justices after eight years or whatever term without a constitutional amendment. Putting them in “senior status“ with adjusted duties is easier.

It’s a challenge, but they have to have their “share” if they’re in power. But at least we aren’t saddled with them for life! It’s the same as a two term president, and we will likely survive this one now! Just 🤞🤞

Not sure. A mandate, a majority on both houses and acceptance that if the SCOTUS tries to stop it, the Dems will flood the court with liberal judges. Take it to 20. That wouldn’t need a constitutional change.

To piggyback, the Senate holds the trials after Articles of Impeacment are passed in the House. There has to be 2/3 majority of the vote to Convict the impeached official.

I mean, theoretically, a supermajority congress could impeach the VP, then the president (the former VP), and continue to do this until the presidency meets their demands. The courts would need to be changed first, though to uphold everything. Serious reconstruction needs to be done.

We don’t need criminal trials. We need a.president who on day 1 orders Trump, his family, his cabinet, and the right wing billionaires and media enablers onto planes in manacles going to Tehran. A peace offering. Who cares if they don’t accept. Our problem is solved.

What is the literal process for increasing the majority? The problem the Democrats need to overcome is their obsession with restoring norms, eg. setting up an independent process to investigate the status and come back with findings that take so long you’re out of power by the time they arrive.

The reality is, even if they take the senate Dems are not likely to have a 2/3 majority, will only be able to stop bad bills & confirmations from passing. They can pass 3 reconciliation bills, anything else would require GOP and Fetterman to play nice and help them pass meaningful legislation.

Hoping the hearings find where the money for the golf outings and vanity projects has been repurposed from, and how much of the treasury has been siphoned off to trumps board of peace and offshore treasury account he set up. Just want how he is bankrupting the USA out in the open before the crash.

Yep! But they can’t indict them. They can only impeach and hold a senate trial. They can make criminal referrals, but they won’t be indicted until we elect a Dem potus who will appoint a strong AG to replace Blanche (or whoever is AG at the end of Trump’s term)

Yes. And House impeachment functions as an indictment, the Senate vote functions as a conviction, and removal from office as the penalty/sentence. Not the same nor equivalent, of course, but it does remove any immunity by right? of office.

Dems will not have control of the DOJ even after midterms. That means Blanche is still AG; FBI=Kash Patel; DOJ=Hegseth; all Cabinet members will still be in charge. Marshals will still be under DOJ. DHS still under DOJ. Secret Service still under DOJ. There can be no enforcement until new Prez.

American voters vote to burn the house down and then vote to have Democrats rebuild it in an impossible time. They think the gavel the speaker controls is a magic wand that can do anything. bsky.app/profile/we-a...

I think many have wild expectations of impeachments and prosecutions if Dems take Congress. They will gain the power to stop some bad things the GOP would do, but not hold people accountable or reverse what the fascists have done. They can try to inform the public of the corruption but little else.

They aren’t even doing the bare minimum to stop the regime NOW. We should be demanding a lot more from the Dems and they should be hearing that. Sick of their pathetic spinelessness at the easiest of confrontation opportunities.

And we would need 67 Senators to convict Trump if he were impeached. We are no where near that number I say untangle as much shit as you can and keep your eye on 2028.

🇺🇲🏛️🏴‍☠️👑🎃👐🏻💬 “Congress Can’t Indict? Then I Demand A BIGGER Court—MINE!” 📜 Divine & Demonic Wisdom 📜 HEAVEN'S😇🪉🙏🏻MORAL: “JUSTICE REQUIRES EVIDENCE, DUE PROCESS, AND PATIENCE—NOT POLITICAL SHORTCUTS!” TRUMPLANDIA’S😈🔥🖕IMMORAL: “WHY FOLLOW THE RULES WHEN SHOUTING LOUDER FEELS LIKE WINNING?!”

We know that Congress can't currently indict and convict for criminal activity, but they can Impeach the political appointees who fail to do their jobs, and they can cut the funding for hiring more incompetents to swell his reach! Also give Congress and courts their own police and prosecutors!

Having the Executive Branch policing itself, hasn't been a very positive experience, so far ... In fact, they only go after people who trump thinks have turned on him whether they have or not! his personal agenda id ALL IMPORTANT, and if it hurts the rest of USa, all the better!

Great! Couple problems: 1. Jon Ossoff isn’t president. 2. He’s not even confirmed if he’s running in ‘28 3. Him running in ‘28 would open a seat for Republicans to retake if he were elected, so it’s not wise politically. 4. It’s not 2028.

I understand this, but I also understand that a lot of us progressives are tired of the Democrat leadership insisting on bipartisanship, "my friends across the isle", and all that. We don't want passive BS, we want them to meet the moment with what's required.

Step 1: Win the midterms and use the power we've given them to entirely halt all cabinet, judicial, and other nominees. Hold hearings and don't let witnesses run the show. Call out the BS in real time. Use all of the levers of power to obstruct this criminal administration.

Step 2: Hold the House and Senate, win the presidency, and immediately, on day 1, have legislation ready to fast track through to the new Democrat president to expand SCOTUS, have nominees ready to go, hold a mass confirmation hearing and get them in place.

Senate filibuster must go. Let the GOP shout on FOX about it. They're going to do whatever they can to obstruct. Make the entire GOP party irrelevant. Pass the progressive legislation that will benefit the American people everywhere. Just get it done, quickly, and ignore their objections.

even if members of the Maga grifter army are tried and found guilty remember that all judicial rulings are ultimately enforced by the US marshals. They report directly to Todd Blanche.

No thats right but the police need to be enforcing the law and they are not the DA needs to start charging these assholes that break and broke the law and if we dont start seeing that they gon be in just as much hot water So the dems coming into power need to bring a whole lotta act right

Cutting the power of the purse too I hope. And just me but I wouldn't waste time with trying to impeach Donny. But going after and exposing all his subordinates will make his life so miserable.

How that any time maga is in power they do whatever the fuck the want but wen dems are in power... excuses... traditions and norms are more important than bring to justice the criminals. Just look at the Epstein case... decades on it, nothing is done.

We have to do everything in our power to make them accountable to their own standards. Do not forget that they want execution squads for traitors. If that's what they want for us, it is good enough for them. If needed, we have to appoint agency heads that will be legally ruthless.
