I'm going to try to do this cleanly. Today's right wing governments are networked to each other. Those networks are well-documented. You can read about them in books. Following the elections in one node of that network is good practice for understanding the U.S. node.

I just think Matt's wrong about this. We're at a point in our technological development where a ton of problems spill over national borders--if Flavio Bolsonaro burns down the Amazon, that will flood houses in Miami.

Kudos to NBC New York for saying it without equivocation: "The US is to blame for the world falling behind in the fight against climate change."

i think all of it should have been coupled together as a pretty important example of how the people who say they oppose "vibes-based" misinformation are just as likely to spread it, tbh

“Hype is eating the future, and leaving us the bones.” Sun-ha Hong of UNC-Chapel Hill says the Silicon Valley hype machine systematically “borrows credibility from the future to purchase legitimacy in the present.” The cost, he argues, is a planetary-scale drain on our alternatives.

Menin asks the AI execs to "raise your hand if your company has insurance for catastrophic risks." No one does. "Okay, I'm going to take that as a no... So then the public, I assume, will be asked to absorb the costs." Each of the execs then scramble to clarify that they actually don't know.

Bovino left and many people stopped giving a shit.

Will Bunch@willbunch.bsky.social

This is happening all over rural America. We need to wake up, people. There's no Greg Bovino in his Nazi coat to blow whistles it. It's daily Gestapo-type terror, aided by the banality of evil local cops www.sltrib.com/news/2026/10...

“The customer is always wrong, now” is a great way to capture how specialize finance has ruined everything from our favorite store to your political process. Margins are now the only customer. The only voter. We have but one real way to exert power over any of it anymore.

You can trace the decline of American society through DraftKings/FanDuel ads. In 2015 when they first infected sports, fans were so mad they stopped. In 2026 every league & network gets a cut, so fans are still mad but we're forced to suffer. The customer is always wrong, now.

also. the thing people hate is not ‘the technology’ it is the tech industry. they hate move fast and break things. they hate having everything they say tracked and processed while companies do whatever they want. they hate every single ideological value that animates silicon valley

This is why I hate "just a tool" so so so much. You can make a calculator without access to every calculation. You can make photoshop without access to all photos. Someone show me a genai tool that didn't require all of our labour in its production. It's plagiarism software.

Eye popping. Court just unsealed Summary Judgment motions in New York Times v OpenAI / Microsoft. Easy to see why the AI companies had so many redactions (pink). Their own people wrote the lede for NYT, the "largest theft of labor in human history"... "more and more substitutive..." /1

In retrospect, we’ll see the key trend of the era was an elite revolt by the very rich, politicians and media employees against the idea there should be *any limits at all* on their behaviour, up to and including strangers publicly criticising them. All presented as The Wisdom Of The Average Punter.

Pretending the days after Sept. 11, 2001 were some kind of gauzy Hallmark special when we came together as a country is nauseating and ahistorical. The country went completely insane and has not recovered

It truly is wild that everyone in the Epstein files has gone unpunished but political commentators on both sides of the Atlantic will write endless articles criticising the public for not having faith in the system.

I don't want things to get back to normal. Normal is what got us here. Going back to normal is just setting the stage for another repeat, because we already "went back to normal" and the fuckers took advantage. I want things to change, and I want this to never happen again.

The justification for voting for Sensible Moderates was always that they could actually win and then do good things with power, and they would act as a bulwark against the far right. All of that is gone now, deliberately destroyed *by the Sensible Moderates themselves*. None of it remains.

Look at the state of it. This stuff didn’t happen organically, because it’s the natural order. It was actively imposed upon the public by people whose names you’ve heard, by fraud.

Always a good reason for Stephen Jay Gould’s quote: “I am, somehow, less interested in the weight and convolutions of Einstein’s brain than in the near certainty that people of equal talent have lived and died in cotton fields and sweatshops.”

That Democrats see mass-murdering fascists dismantling the country as nothing more than "colleagues they dislike" is why we've been in a non-stop plummet. Incredible this is still debatable, by people who ostensibly oppose fascism, ten years into this?!?

My hot take is that Lindsey Graham did many contemptible things but if you’re furious that his Senate Democratic colleagues are posting nice things about him today you need to put down your phone, get some fresh air, and remember a time when a colleague you disliked departed this mortal coil.
