The best way to collect on unpaid fees and fines would be for all vehicles to be equipped with ignition interlocks that prevent the vehicle from operating if there are ANY fees or fines outstanding. Even fees in dispute should be paid and then contested and refunded if the appeal is successful.

You have no idea how half the country lives, do you? Most people don’t have a lot of room in their budget for unplanned expenses, and they need their vehicle to get to work. They learned this when they tried suspending professional licenses for people not paying child support.

I received 2 recently, one was text message from "DMV Georgia" about unpaid fee for using the HOV lane (I never do). The other was from a place in Illinois saying I have unpaid fees for "traffic infraction caught on camera. Failure to pay by.(2 days) will result in revocation of car registration."

I'm getting voicemails: "You, (mumble), have been charged in an administrative proceeding that is on file for the record of the charges that have been brought against you in the processing file number of the case for which these charges are pending. Call 1-833-- immediately."

I keep getting notifications about toll road fees that haven't been paid. There aren't any toll roads that I am aware of in the Phoenix metro area or for that matter, state wide. I responded to one of their texts with this info and then blocked them. Whoever they are.

Just got one today! And I have to say, because it knew what state I’d been driving in, I went to check to see if it was a scam or not… My parents might have fallen for it; I feel bad for older folks.

I've received at least 3 of them, and there are no toll roads or bridges in my state. Stupid scammers. The ones I REALLY want them to go after are the Medicare scammers. Those fuckers call my mom's house more than a dozen times per day.

A lot of the times they do spoof local numbers with local exchanges. One time it came up as “healthcare” on my phone with an area code from the county I just moved from. It wasn’t. It was loan scammers

Someone called me and asked if I called them as in a missed call. My # was spoofed. My local car insurer was too when I answered and it was not her or anyone in her office- some scammer wasting my time

I have so much fun texting them back with super weird GIFs and comments. My spouse tells me it’s not worth it because they’re just bots, but they blocked me after I sent them creepy toe GIFs, and I haven’t gotten a scam text from them in weeks!

Here is what I don't get. The FBI could pay one of these, track the scamming accounts, and shut this shit down. But it goes on for months, for years and seemingly nobody does a damn thing about it. Why are attempted crimes seemingly just allowed to proliferate with nobody trying to stop them?

I will add that I have long felt there should be a government body who's job it was to try and STOP crime more than to prosecute somebody for it. So the goal is less about watching it happen and trying to gather legal evidence but more about trying to interdict and just stop all the victimization.

Even "better" is government workers through its email systems have been Phishing government workers to change their passwords before they "expire". They get about 6 a day and Kosplay Kristi is doing nothing.

I haven't gotten a text on my phone about cars ever. Calls about my 'extended warranty' but I blocked them and funny,it works. I don't own a car, so information from DMV doesn't get leaked. I also don't use my phone a lot. The more you use it, the more chances there are for scammers to find it.

Unless you signed up to be notified by text from your dmv just repo and block. If you respond you are verifying/confirming to them that your phone number is active and you'll get more crap sent your way than ever.

No one texts people for money unless it's a scam. Companies mail letters or e-mail and in the case of the latter you should be vetting all emails for authenticity.

I love when EZ Pass texted me 1. We don’t have any toll roads in our area and 2. I haven’t been able to drive for 25 years and no cars are in my name. Bring it on, scammers!! #legallyblind #stargardts

Now if I could just get my wife to stop responding to all scams, she seems to collect them like a dirty dog collects flees. Scammed 3 time in the last 6 months, luckily the bank is pretty good at shutting off the card. Texts about un-paid toll road fees seem to be the current scam in Florida.

SCAMS have spread through almost every genre to be thought of ... I get a call daily from a different phone number, telling me I am able to get help from this administration with tax debt ... trying to not let my annoyance get to me, as I may, in my anger, give out information to end the calls ...

I got one of these. It was hilarious. Said I owed $6.99. Like I bought a big jar of off-brand sandwich sliced pickles at the DMV? And, if I didn’t pay up by Saturday (it was Friday) I would be fined great sums (over a jar of Pickles).

I just got the text this morning from the country code 63. It was not the first time. I just ignore those because I use toll tag on my vehicle and the account is directly paid from my bank account. I could see clearly they are scammers. It is annoying. Something should be done.

Scammers seem to be thriving in the atmosphere created by the pestilence. Beware of one we encountered… a suspicious Apple Watch purchase with an Apple Card. We zapped that like a tick. Beware!!

I got messages twice in the last 3 months… What cracks me up is I haven’t owned a car since 1991 when I moved back from California to New York… close to 35 years, the best part of course was the email address that was attached to it…. Figured let me share it
