Rachel Maddow referred to the string of detention warehouses as an "archipelago," presumably in reference to the Gulag Archipelago. I think of towns like Treblinka and Auschwitz/Oswiecim that will never escape their association with death camps. Maybe American towns don't want that legacy.

I’ve been reading about this today. Ice purchasing warehouses and places with no windows. The purpose, to capture in put resistors into these torture chambers. We cannot go in our country like this. I don’t care about the constitution anymore. I care about stopping these people whoever they are ..

Can someone give us a list of the zoning for those properties? I'll wager very few are zoned for prisons That's the way to fight these concentration camps is to object at the county level land use regulations

The thing that is working nationwide is to show up at city or county council meetings and use public comment time to be heard. CALL your electeds, give them your name and zip code, and tell them how you feel about these warehouses.

Thank you for flagging! As of this writing there are conflicting reports on the status of 29 Elizabeth Drive. There are claims it was sold to a front company run by DHS / ICE; however, the realtor I spoke with representing the property said it's still available for sale.

Reminds me of Rex-84 and the plan to round up immigrants and people deemed national security threats, and place them in prison camps run by FEMA To be established on US military bases throughout the country. This plan has been in the works for a while, at least since the 1980’s.

Rachel Madow said the facility approval was denied for Social Circle GA. The town has a stated population of 5000. A facility for 8500-10000 detainees is double the town’s population. The town does not have water and sewage capacity to support that number of detainees.

Nice work. What's the source of beds data? Couple of ideas: - If you can find APN, that is more reliable and stable than street address (and often includes more info). - If you separate the state or zip, that would allow filtering to aid in organizing resistance. Also: bsky.app/profile/dbon...

If the Feds or these states adopt the 2024 IBC, this conversion from warehouse to detention (I-3 occupancy) should trigger a wind & seismic upgrade. Just sayin', if they used the building code to make it harder to build abortion clinics, this is a much more justified application.

Hey! As of early Jan., ICE owns the facility outright. Washington County has signaled that they will not intervene to hold up permitting or other work. We wrote about one resident who is filing to become a consulted party due to alleged issues with how the sale and comment process occurred.

This is disgusting. warehouses already take too much space as is and are often close to places they shouldn't be. Which sucks but at least normally they're used by actual businesses that can bring money to the area The same can not be said if ICE buys them; in that case it is fully a waste of space

I appreciate learning about this site last night on The Last Word. It has run through my head, though---could we name any existing and future concentration camps Trump #_______ (fill in the blank.) ? After all, he wants lots of places to be named after himself.
