I'm so upset not to be at FantasyCon because the complete nuisance I would have made of myself, Peter F Hamilton wouldn't go anywhere all weekend without me heckling and booing. I would absolutely use the power of autism to give zero fucks if I'm upsetting him.

‘Wow I sure have made a lot of money and been very successful in a field where that’s essentially impossible. Shall I give back to my community? Or embrace the most damaging and cowardly aspects of the stupidest part of the Anthropocene yet?’ FUCK

not the least bit surprised to see that fuckin guy on that list, it's like his lifelong hobby was becoming a worse person

I remember a mass signing at a con once where as usual most of us were lucky if we got a handful of fans and where Salvatore's line stretched the length of the hall. One of the rest of us said they WISHED they had that line, and a passing con staff said, then you should write those books... /1

Then those nutcrackers are NOT being very creative or original at all. It is NOT their original works at all. So blind... So blind.

Obligatory "this blew up" post. Other things that should blow up include: * Data centres used for AI * Anti-AI sentiment and action * My book sales (I do not and have never used AI for anything, least of all anything creative)

I loathe how the bit about "the traditional push to the screen" loses the "definitive" version of the story pretends to be standing up for art. It's the opposite. A film is about collaboration and what others bring to it. It's insanely disrespectful to go "Thank god we don't need THAT any more".

While I love David Lynch's Dune as someone who had already read Dune, it is also like a masterclass in why you absolutely cannot just "put the book on screen". They aren't the same medium, they don't work the same, things don't translate so easily!

R. A. Salvatore's writing isn't literature; it's a symptom of capitalism. Buddy hasn't had a story to tell since the turn of the century, but he's had bills to pay so round and round we go. That horse is so dead Matron Malice resurrected it to kill its bastard son

You know what’s funny. The only name I have heard of on that list of authors is Salvatore and only because of the D&D connection. Couldn’t tell you anything about what he wrote. Never heard of the other authors either. Guess I wasn’t their “target audience”. Definitely not now either.

Something gross about the fact that people who’ve already made their money/reputation are so comfortable with walking away and destroying the industry behind them.

look at those terms. you get to sell your movie on one explicit streaming site. no other rights to anything you create there. they get full rights to anything you use to make the movie. even, if i read this right, a sublicense on your book that you base the movie on
