hard not to feel intensely irritated at people like this but on the other hand a big chunk of people, probably most, are just never going to become politics obsessives. even basic political literacy requires a healthy information environment www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...

yeah like, in order for someone to know something, they must learn it either through experience or instruction, and the system of communicating the stakes of elections is just totally broken bsky.app/profile/ecow...
Seems harsh to continually blame average people for Trump when virtually every major media corporation downplayed the risk or actively backed him. Blame the rich hands controlling the narrative, not the people who were caught in the con.

Sure buuuuut "make IVF free"!? I mean. When I was a kid, my mom woulda said "boy they saw you comin'". That's just a sucker bet, as far as I am concerned. But mom ended up being a Trump voter too. But only because the Republicans told her to and how else was she going to get abortion outlawed. 🤷🏻♂️
the other thing about social media of course is that it has broken the brains of Republican (and many Dem) electeds, and none worse than Elon Musk's. voters deluded and elites driven stark raving mad www.economist.com/briefing/202...
I mean, sure. and yes, mass media at all levels bears a large share of responsibility. but come on, voters also have agency. trump is a known quantity and has been for a decade—in politics specifically. unless you've been floating in a literal fucking void, you know who and what you were voting for.
i completely agree. but the question remains, where were they from 2017 - 2020? even if you're totally checked out and surviving on a diet of TikTok and facebook, do they not see the racism and misogyny, the punching down? the uncountable lies & sexual assaults? why does none of that matter to them?
