Will anyone—anyone at all—ask Trump about the rape allegations published in an official report by the House Judiciary Democrats? Or will he continue to escape accountability for his violence?

It's pretty clear some folks on here don't understand that not every post is for them or in conversation with them. It's OK dude, just keep scrolling. Really, that's something you can do.

I am 100% in favor of people who don't want kids not having kids, but watching your kids play on the beach on a day where all your responsibilities are asleep is a peak human experience of a type you will struggle to get elsewhere.

Ryan Van Loan reposted

A tough thing in explaining to people why having children is enjoyable is that all the bad stuff is very easy to explain (lost sleep, lost time, more sickness, less sex, etc. etc.) whereas most of the really good stuff whispers.

there might be feelings better than having your kid snuggle up asleep on you but there is no feeling like it. I am a simple ape and probably you are too

Ran the numbers and I have been pretty ill (unable to work out or do much more than survive) 27% of this year so far. Haven't been this sick since I was a kid. Which they warn you about when you have kids but oof.

it is hard to sell how effective this was. the far right here was completely lost in the past two weeks because *nothing* of their tried and true methods to dictate public opinion and the media were working. even bot farming views to pump the algo did jack shit

That it'll fail because they lack sufficient consolidation and centralized control does not make it trivial that the president of the United States is trying to steal elections and produce an illegitimate sham Congress. It is open rebellion against the Constitution and morally tantamount to treason.

Also the *specific* thing the mother claims Acton lied about was that the family lived in a tent during part of her childhood. The court records show that the stepfather was arrested... in the tent where they were living.

It really needs to be emphasized that the woman Vivek is featuring in these videos fled with an accused & indicted child rapist and successfully helped him avoid trial for 20+ years.

shauna@goldengateblond.bsky.social

even by normal oppo standards this story is bonkers — basically vivek and co (and acton’s shitty mother) are accusing acton of fabricating horrific stories of child sexual abuse that are clearly documented in court records

like vance, ramaswamy is a hateful, resentful orc of a human being, and the reason i think this will hurt him politically — where this stuff didn’t hurt trump — is that ramaswamy, like vance, is also profoundly unlikeable. he has no charm or charisma or anything. just a dipshit.

amazing thread, amazing idea, amazing serendipitous riff on the frog-boiling metaphor

Biollante@bivouacchillin.bsky.social

Fortunately, we can do something about it. Chytrid can't survive past 30°C (86°F) but frogs can, and because they're cold-blooded, they'll seek out heat to warm up and leave the heat to cool off

One would be good and the other would be bad because one cause is good and the other is bad. We are not in the realm of procedural justice concerns anymore, liberalism is not obligated to be neutral on the question of its own existence.

People demanding Zuck be hauled before Congress to explain why No Kings insta was suspended... how would you feel if MAGA GOP hauled MSNow execs to explain why they covered Trump the way they do? Both are editorial choices protected by the First Amendment. If this annoys you...

Ryan Van Loan reposted

when a side defects without consequence you are now playing a fundamentally rigged game and the only way to fix it is to ensure defectors are punished in such a way that they learn there are consequences to all their choices

Mike Masnick@masnick.com

Yes, it sucks that the No Kings insta was suspended (though I still think it was likely an automated tripwire, rather than deliberate). But falling back into "well we have to politically punish media execs to get better results" doesn't fix anything.

Part of the answer to "how did we get here?" is that many major journalists—since 1998, Crawford has covered SCOTUS for PBS, ABC, and CBS—are lying bigots. Here Crawford is praising a guy who asked a dumb racist question, glitched out when asked why, then admitted he wanted a Christian theocracy.

I'd have some guilt so unsure about frivolous. Would buy a ranch out West to serve as a dog rescue with summer camps for kids of various needs to connect with dogs and nature.

Peter@notalawyer.bsky.social

question for the audience: if you were ultra rich (let’s say $25M), what completely frivolous thing are you buying?

Btw stayed at a ranch out there that was sold while we were there for $20M so not sure $25M is ultra rich anymore. (Not saying I wouldn't take $25M and that it's a number far out of reach for me today - just a measure of how much wealth inequality there is today.)

I like Vladeck but you paywall a controversial post & then complain people only engage with the snippet is a bit ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Also would suggest we take a page out of Grant's book and stop being so fucking consumed by what the fascist party of America *might* do & figure out what we will do.

strategic political capture of the court has, for 40 years, been a one-way ratchet. among other things, this has inculcated a sense among conservatives that they can act with virtual impunity. showing them that their opponents will play hardball is a necessary first step toward a better status quo.

Ryan Van Loan reposted

will try to answer these in a piece next week but for now i will say that part of the *point* of court expansion, in my mind, is to create a disequilibrium — a potential race to the bottom — that will force a truce.

Steve Vladeck@stevevladeck.bsky.social

Calls for expanding #SCOTUS are entirely (and increasingly) understandable. But as today's "One First" explains, there are at least four difficult questions that those who support expansion should have to answer—especially as compared to other possible reforms: www.stevevladeck.com/p/bonus-257-...
