The future of Red America: stuck in near indentured service, you can't pay for the treatment to cure your daughter but manage to scrunge up just enough to take her to the closest privately run national Park for a final hurrah. Tears roll down your face as you say you're so lucky to be an American.

OK so basically the Plain Dealer made an exception to its endorsements when it was the Black lady's turn.

Kyle Griffin@kylegriffin1.bsky.social

The Ramaswamy ad has pushed the largest newspaper in Ohio, the Cleveland Plain Dealer, to reverse its position on endorsements. "A candidate who uses childhood sexual abuse as a weapon against the person who endured it has crossed a line that Ohioans should defend, whatever their party."

don't worry the NYT had 320 entire words on it

I know there's a lot going on but I feel it should probably be more of an above-the-fold story that members of Congress released a thoroughly documented report directly accusing the president of the United States of being a serial rapist.

This report has a lot more information than that one less-than-credible accusations against Trump. If people read (I know, it's an impossible ask), you'll see there are three more I would deem extremely well-evidenced and credible.

The minute Dems gain any power at all, watch them descend like locusts, hyping an endless series of fake scandals fed to them by the same RW slop machine that's been playing them for fools for decades. They can't wait.

Charles Attend シャルラタン reposted

The political media is visibly chafing at the current situation, where Republicans are glaringly awful, fucking everything up, running deviant candidates everyone hates, and Dems are just being normal & winning. The force is out of balance. They are viscerally eager to go after Dems about something.

The powerful executives who cozied up to Trump didn't oops accidentally forget about pendulum swings. They either: 1) Like the fascism 2) Calculated it was here to stay, so going along was savvy 3) Saw no real downside, no consequences when the pendulum swung Crucial to show them 3 was a mistake

Schooley@schooley.bsky.social

That this is in THE WASHINGTON POST is almost too much irony to bear.

The media: "don't worry, we're still cool with transphobia and islamophobia"

In his acceptance speech, Lula says he will work to regulate digital platforms in Brazil. “Digital crimes must be dealt with like real-life crimes.” This comes after Meta directly interfered with the Brazilian elections, favouring Flávio Bolsonaro.

ELECTION DAY RECORD: with a week to go, U.S. gas prices are 42.3c/gal above 2022’s election day avg, the priciest election day at the pump ever. diesel is nearly $1/gal above 2022’s $5.33/gal. both are on track for the highest election day prices on record (not all-time highs).

I don't know that there is a template or a "secret sauce" or a clear-cut lesson to take from this. But if there is one it's the idea of treating social media as the hostile territory that it is, of actually acting like you are a participant in propaganda warfare and not like a consumer.

One benefit of holding leaders accountable for crimes is that if Flávio Bolsonaro tries to overturn this election, he knows exactly where he’d end up. In prison, next to his father.

I know it’s gauche to say it out loud, but I remain convinced that Trump launched the Iran war to distract from the Epstein Files. He juiced gas prices, tanked Republicans midterms and made himself a lame duck to suppress the release of the files. The man is guilty and he knows it.

Brazil’s results tonight are a big endorsement for the idea that every country should have a second “are you you sure about that” election a couple weeks after the first one for the important stuff

Don't underestimate what the Lula win means for the owners of the media. It means they may think twice about tipping the scale if they pull a move that fails and risks them retribution from the state.

This thread comes to a close... ... as we now have a final result. Let the records show that, with 92% of the vote countywide, Lula is up 3.3%. (Can he end up doubling his 2022 margin?)

Lula has been reelected president, Brazilian media has now called. An extraordinary comeback for the left-wing politician who trailed by 2 points in round 1 but managed to hold off Flávio Bolsonaro, the former president's son.

Just like millennials were the last generation to know a world without the Internet, it looks as if we'll likely also be the last generation to have built all the intuition that provides the only checks on AI's generated content. The gap between the Internet and agentic AI was surprisingly short.
