Was waiting until my panel at TMG to finally show this, but I commissioned @firiun.bsky.social to cook up a piece celebrating 15 years of Versus videos (with a little self-indulgence thrown in). Folks tell me that I got them into certain games all the time, so, what did I convince you to try?

I distinctly remembering watching your first Pokemon marathon, which helped me rekindle my love of Pokemon and I ended up spending most of my free time in my first year of university playing gen 1 and completing the Pokédex for all 3 games (and also completing Pokemon stadium with my teams lol)

Other notable games that are now some of my favorites include Cave Story, Shantae (I think first from the brainscratch commentary? And then your vs vid of the games), and the first sgb playthrough of Crash 3 and the Crash marathon got me into the series

Well aside from Metroid, which I briefly told you about when I met you at TMG this weekend and had you sign my copy of Dread, I've also bought the collections for Castlevania, been dipping my toes into Final Fantasy, and I want to try Onimusha sometime soon. 👍 bsky.app/profile/mrca...

And lastly, I MET THE GOAT @somecallmejohnny.com AT #TooManyGames! 😍 This was a dream of mine for SO many years, and I'm glad I finally did it, on his Vs series 15th anniversary too! LOVED getting to talk with you dude! Thanks for signing Metroid Dread, & I hope you enjoy Transformers Animated DS. 😉

Castlevania, Mega Man, Batman Arkham series. Probably a couple of things...but those are the ones I can remember after 13 years of watching. Lol

I think out of all of your reviews you've done that actually inspired me to go and play them, it was probably either Crash or MGS, maybe a little bit of the hidden gems too like Psychonauts.

For me it was your spotlight stream on Katana Zero. I had never heard of it beforehand, and ironically the stream stopped right before the point that would actually hook me and turn it into one of my favorite games ever. Thanks for introducing me to a hyperfixation I really needed at the time.

Oooh. That's honestly a toughie-i guess xiv would count but that's technically moreso from streams. Otherwise, while they weren't just form reviews I think you helped for crash, ratchet, 2d Metroid post super, and classic FF

Final Fantasy 5, Resident Evil 4 (the original), the N. Sane Trilogy, and…I don’t remember any other games you inspired me to try that I didn’t just choose to play on my own. Still, your reviews did at least serve as quality entertainment, if that’s worth anything.

The Final Fantasy series. Your videos finally convinced me to take the dive (opted for Pixel Remasters). Started a little over a month ago with FF1, going through the whole series and now all the way up to FFVI part way into the World of Ruin. Been an amazing experience so far (except II, was ok)

Your Playstation video convinced me to play a lot more PS1 games and of course all three of the Crash Bandicoot games. Especially Crash Bandicoot 3 Warped thanks to your lets play with Elliot which to this day I still find entertaining.

Sonic and Metroid mostly, I was very young and didn’t really know what Metroid even was. Thanks to your videos I downloaded Zero Mission and then the rest of the series. So many more afterwards. Thank you so much

Castlevania SOTN, but not just that, as it was the game that really got me into Metroidvanias. I had some experience with the genre before, but that game made me fall in love with it. Metroidvanias became one of my favorite genres containing some of my favorite games.

Ever since 2013, I've been a fan of your channel being first introduced via the sonic 06 review, ever since then I've been a part of the community and got to meet so many good friends that I still chat to this very day. Your reviews also taught me to enjoy games themselves and not on review scores

Final Fantasy, Metroid, and Castlevania. My favorites I’ve played so far from each series: FF6, Super Metroid, and Super Castlevania 4 (I haven’t played SotN yet). Never would have found these series if not for your vids. Thanks John for all the dedication you put into them. Here’s to 15 years!!🥂

Happy 15th Johnny. I'd say your original Castlevania reviews got me to try all the games up through SOTN. About 8 years ago 👀

Metroid. Literally had no idea what it was at the time, but seeing you gawking at the games so much got me curious to try them out. Havent finished all of them yet, but from what I played its an about blast.

Honestly Metroid was not something I was interested in untill I saw your review of Super and Fusion and now its one of my favourite franchises with Zero Mission and Prime 1 being my favourites

Of course, you helped me get into Sonic. But it's because I became such a huge Sonic fan that you also introduced me to my favorite videogame of all time: Freedom Planet If it weren't for you, I wouldn't have discovered all the little niches that make up such a huge part of my identity❤️

I think the Sonic stuff? I used to watch Clements Let's Plays of the Wily Wars because nobody else loves that weird collection other than me and him, but i started watching your stuff due to the connections from there. Grats on 15 years man!

Tails adventure You convinced me so bad that it motivated me to 100% adventure DX just to access it Then to buy it twice on 3ds

It was thanks to your review of Hollow Knight that got me into the series so thank you very much for that! Bonus it was also due to the SGB playthrough of Kingdom Hearts II that got me into that series. Then of course, what introduced me to you, SGB, & BSC was the BrainScratch Sonic 06 playthrough.

I had tried Crash Bandicoot 1 when I was younger but couldn't get very far because of the difficulty. Watching your Crash Bandicoot reviews years later convinced me to give it another shot, and now I'm a big fan of the series.

MGS, Castlevania, Freedom Planet, and funny enough - Splatoon, even if I wouldn't play the series til the second game, which led to me making animations based off it for the past 9 years - even tossed you in The Last Can because of it. Thank you for all the adventures, man. 💙

Resident Evil, Kingdom Hearts, Zelda Link Between Worlds, Mega Man and Mega Man X, DMC 5, Spyro. You put me onto so much heat 😭 I gotta thank you Your cheque will be in the mail next week

Where do I start? 3D Sonic, Metroid, Zelda, 3D Mario, Castlevania, Mega Man. So much of my current taste in games was influenced by just watching you, SGB, and Brainscratch growing up. I do like Minecraft though, so at least I gained some independence. Here's to another 15 (or more) years!

Sonic, Mega Man, Metroid, Castlevania, hell your Resident Evil videos came out *right* as I got into that series, and I'm an RE megafan now. The real answer is Mary-Kate and Ashley Sweet 16: License to Drive. Congrats on 15 amazing years of Johnny vs!

When I think about it, it might've been Crash Bandicoot on a technicality. Because I did have a game growing up but didn't give the platformers much of a try till N.Sane and It's About Time (not counting the PS1 of the 1st game we managed to get but didn't get super far in).

Symphony of the night. First time I saw the game in action was the old Nocturne in the Moonlight playthrough. If we are talking strictly the Vs video though then it would be Metroid Zero Mission

For me, Shantae! Thought I would enjoy the games since you share a LOT of similar opinions as me on games so I felt I would enjoy them and now I have a series I absolutely adore because of you, thank you for that

Crash, Shovel Knight, and the Curse of the Moon line...... none of which I'm that big a fan of, honestly. Really wanting to try the classic Ratchet series though.

Off the top of my head? The shantae series, super meat boy, guacamelee, skullgirls, brave fencer musashi and Dust. I know there's more but I can't think of what they might have been.

It was a mixture of Sonic, Crash and Resident Evil. You were a factor, which is still something regardless. Besides other YouTubers like Caddy and general interest from myself, I ended up checking out some of the stuff you've looked at. On top of watching some SGB playthroughs too.

Mary Kate & Ashley's Sweet 16: Licensed to Drive with Mario Party Madness in 2024. Your review inspired me to convince Clark to make it happen. Though your love for Onimusha got me even more invested into the series.

Castlevania, specifically the post NES titles. I had a PS3 when you released your Symphony of the Night video, so I downloaded it, played it, and loved it. And when you did your recent videos on the GBA/DS games I went out and bought those and have been chunking through them.

I know one of the first videos I saw of your channel was when you and Clement were racing on City Escape's time trials. As for games, Cave Story, Shantae and the Pirate's Curse, and Link Between Worlds.

The artwork looks really cool! From your videos, your review of A Hat in Time is how I was first introduced to the game. I would end up getting the game on PS4, and then later got the Switch version physically, back when the game's DLC was coming out on Switch 1st before the other consoles.

I’ve been watching your videos ever since some of you earliest VS videos like the 3d Sonic Marathon or when you looked at the Shantae series. However, it was your Onimusha video that got me to try the first game! I hadn’t beaten the game yet, but I was having a really enjoyable time with it!

I've been standoffish towards the Metal Gear series for years but I've wanted to try it out. I just recently beat the first MGS for the first time about a month ago and loved it all the way through. So thanks Johnny for encouraging me to give this series a real try. Happy 15 years, dude.

The first game you got me to try was Prime 3. it was my first Metroid game and your review convinced me to give it a shot. Thank you Johnny from the bottom of my heart for introducing me to my favorite videogame series of all time and many other games that I wouldn't know about without your videos

lets see... metroid for sure! even tho i played 4 before for a bit and prime 2 as well (3h each), it was your hype that made me give dread the chance to be played. and it was the first mertroid i finished, while also 100% it in the first playthough plus while its not a game, bsc as well

You definitely got me interested in Castlevania because of your videos. And because of that, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is now my favorite “search action” game of all time. :)

Mega Man X (game AND series up to X5). X1 is one of my favorite games now Castlevania. Played 1, 4 and Dracula X Chronicles and I'm looking forward to Belmont's Curse this year Metroid series. Played everything except Prime 2, Prime 3, Hunters and Other M but I deeply enjoyed what I've played

You convinced me to consider Kingdom Hearts (but my partner made me a fan). There's also Metroid Prime. Honestly a few too many to count, but I ain't counting anyways.

Can’t say you got me to try anything, but you were one of the first gaming YouTubers I ever watched, and you introduced me to that whole side of YouTube. Those are memories I only have you to thank for.

Been watching since your review of Ghosts and Goblins (but found you through the 06 review of course)! Blimey. Long time ago! If it wasn’t for you I don’t think I’d have ever properly tried all the Metroid games, specifically the 2D ones, so thank you!

Metroid was the big one! Not vs, but discovered the SGB Metroid reviews right as I was getting into the series and those videos played a huge part in sparking my love for them
