The owner of a top BBQ joint in Texas decided to cut brisket, the top-selling item, from the menu rather than institute a $10 markup for customers. The decision was fueled not just by the skyrocketing price of brisket but by inflation.

Went to Austin in May for very 1st time. $64 for a plate is obscene. Brisket is one of world’s most overrated foods ! I’ll keep my Chicago $9 Italian beef sandwich !

I have never understood the brisket fandom. I have tried it many times, expecting the magic that is promised, and it's just not good meat. I don't care how long you rub or smoke or what magic combo of wood you use - brisket is shitty.

Inflation is the value of money getting lower so it affects everything, but beef costs in particular have other reasons for going up in addition to inflation, same with gas. Inflation plus key markets seeing prices go up means 7 dollar a gallon diesel and briskets you have to take a loan out to buy

CONTRARY TO THE BULLSHIT THEY RAN ON AND WHICH WAPO AND BEZOS THE KKKLOWN HELPED THEM PUSH AS AGIT-PROPAGANDA FROM 2024 TO PRESENT, THEY ACTUALLY WANT ALL OF US STUCK EATING THE CATS AND DOGS. YOU DON'T FEED YOUR LIVESTOCK PEOPLE FOOD. #BOCYOTTWAPO

Brisket isn’t that much more expensive than it was a year ago. Something else or someone else is inflating the price.

I'd like to know who they voted for It's become more apparent how much these fucks screwed themselves over just like everyone else Renee Good's parents voted for trump and see what they got out of it? A dead daughter Heckuva job MAGA!

Hey, WP Editors. Is this what you meant? Because it's what you said. "The decision was fueled not just by the skyrocketing price of brisket but by the increase in the average price of good and services."

Tip from this pescatarian : frozen tofu seasoned properly, tastes very close & is packed with protein. Also, every meal without beef, helps curb global warming.

Because there are non-inflationary pressures driving up the cost of beef as well as inflationary pressures. Specifically, severe drought has reduced herd size over the last couple of years, so there's less beef in the system, which has driven up prices above the inflationary index.

its also supply issues, the beef industry still has not reached the amount of cattle needed to meet demands the last few years. It takes approximately 2 1/2 years to grow a cow for beef slaughter.

It's price gouging, just like with the whole egg thing a while back. Companies look at a crisis like screw worm, and then declare a mark up in price absolutely not justified by the crisis, and then we learn a year later they were lying, and the price never goes back down.

In this case, the cattle industry has been facing increasing limits which is reducing beef availability. That scarcity is increasing prices on its own, then on top of it is inflation and other factors.

It's also because the Trump administration did away with a lot of safety measures that led to serious diseases spreading among live stock. Lower supply because of the culling of thousands of cows is not inflation.

In popular language, most people use "inflation" and "higher prices" interchangeably. But strictly speaking, inflation is the expansion of the monetary supply, and prices can rise for many different reasons. Bird flu making egg prices go up isn't inflation, for example.

A true Texas Republican would be honored to give up beef brisket forever to prove their continued love and devotion for President Donald J. Trump.

"The decision was fueled not just by the skyrocketing price of brisket but by inflation." is this the laziest writing of all time?! They're the same fucking thing, you complete numpties.

When it costs $50 a person to get some BBQ for lunch in Texas…Texans that haven’t had a raise in 5 years are gonna vote their pocketbooks.🛑

Beef is a dying industry in America. Beef ranchers and the public just don’t realize it yet. It costs twice and more what other meats cost. Low feed to meat conversion ratio. And the carbon footprint is the highest of any meat. In 30 years, beef will be a rarity.

Longpig was a regular part of the Polynesian diet back in the day. So be careful what you wish for. But irrespective of cannibalism, beef‘s a dying industry in the USA. Most people already can’t afford it, unless you’re talking about those gristle patties they sell as burgers at the fast food joints

Or the market for beef will swing back to smaller local producers. Like where it started. For many, beef is still "what's for dinner". At least that's what this carnivore is hoping!

We have several local ranches selling beef - either partial or whole sides, and every cut imaginable. They are more expensive, which makes it a luxury rather than a staple. It's also safer, I know where the meat comes from and supports local business.

My uncle was a small scale cattle rancher. And I worked on a small cattle ranch when I was going to college. The small, local rancher thing is cute, but it ain’t gonna scale up to feed several hundred million Americans. Full stop.

This is a really weird business decision. Why don't they just order less and mark it up? Or increase prices across the board to subsidize their most popular menu item? I feel like this makes no economic sense, which makes me worry even more about the impact of Trump-flation (worms, wars, etc)

In the late '70s, I visited many family owned brisket places around San Antonio and Austin. As I recall, brisket was around $10 a pound, high if you were an Army NCO, but a treat. This could enhance the Blue Wave as much as anything. Whether red and blue, Bubbas love their brisket. Trump's a moron.

it used to be! as was ground beef, flank steak, beef liver(now $6lb when i can find it) ckn liver(now $5lb when i can find it) bologna 6+lb.. when i 1st started in restaurants 1983, the vendor LITERALLY would just give us 40#cases of ckn wings that we cooked off for soups.. gotta love capitalism🤬

If there is a silver lining to this age of crises it’s that I’ll be able to watch the meat industry crash and burn in my lifetime. Good riddance.

This sentence is BS--The decision was fueled not just by the skyrocketing price of brisket but by inflation. --- Isn't the skyrocketing price of brisket PART of inflation?
