Data slurping for the surveillance state is one HUGE reason why tech is rotting (meant to the rooting, but that seems better) for Trump

if twitter is any indication

Laughs in GDPR 🇪🇺

Making a list and checking it twice. Sounds about right 🫠

Why does the company need all that information on users? The app worked great, I'm told, without all the new data collection expansion. Plus, China still owns 20% of tiktok and still has access to American users' information.

This isn't anything new. Tik Tok has always collected a crazy amount t if user data. Anyone using that platform is cooked. So glad I didn't sign up when it first came out and I never will.

is this change global (i.e Canada also), or specifically only in the states?

I will never install TikTok. I dropped it months ago, and frankly the new ownership doesn't make me feel any better than the old one.

Uncle Sam reverse unos itself into the youth learning the chorus to "The East is Red" just to spite the government

They may have your past data - but I prefer not to give them any more. It was important to me, to not accept the new terms of service, delete my account, and delete the app.

They’ve had the clause since 2024 so it doesn’t really matter at this point. The clause is just more visible now.

And if you post something they don’t like… your videos get massively suppressed. Suppressed as in NOBODY will see your videos.

I was able to delete my account on my laptop because the TOS message was at the top of the screen. Airplane mode seems like a solid plan too.

I have a feeling they're going to destroy it and make everyone move out pretty quick, because Nazi billionaires like Musk and Ellison don't understand, uh, anything but especially people Twitter, CBS, WAPO etc went downhill fast

I thought the reason for forcing the TikTok sale was because China was collecting all of this personal information. Oh, I get it. It's bad for China but good for Trump-aligned companies.

But I heard that China surveils its citizens! It's like a police state! So glad the brainrot app is in capitalist hands now.

"Tiktok can't be Chinese, it might spy on you!"

Guess it wasn't about security after all

Unsurprising, because it was never about the data collection, but rather *who* was collecting the data.

Really funny how the US is doing the thing they accused China of, but actually are doing the thing

Welcome to the Surveillance States of America

The group may be 'based in the US' but we all know who they work for.

This

I fully understand that for some Tik Tok is a source of revenue but deleting Tik Tok now is critical to people’s privacy.

Uninstalled

I had to close the app, put in airplane mode, go to settings, & delete account, then turn wifi back on to get around the Terms of Service. People bag on TikTok, but I got more live coverage from real people on the ground than on any other platform. It really was a tool for citizens, now it’s gone.

We just can't.

So dump TikTok.

Cool thing about infinite beings in infinite time - humans are NOT Frozen. AI is based on faulty sense of THE REAL!

#DeleteTikTok not that I ever had it 😅 And besides fucking reels are inane stupidity.

I had to agree and then deleted my account and then the app.

Anybody know if the app can defeat the iPhone “do not share location” setting or VPN or that other iPhone setting about not sharing your ISP?

His statements on Taiwan are comparable though

That was the whole point of moving it into US hands...

The chinese data collection was for advertisers to sell you more stuff. The american data collection is to know when they can grab you, when you're alone, when no one will see - or to see who you're with, at all times. I prefer the advertising.

I hope this has 3 things occur. 1: American tiktok falls off hard as folks realize it's all right wing agitprop, strife, and stuff meant to placate 2: smarter Americans start doing VPNs 3: kids start using alternative networks and figure out alternatives to corpo tech. Get cyberpunk.

It gets worse… they’re censoring anti-Trump posts now bsky.app/profile/davi...

Already cancelled!

Yeah, I got a pop up message that couldn't be by-passed or opted out. Not accepting.

You mean US corporations are more invasive than Chinese ones? Who would have thunk?

youtu.be/PlF6_SAwwv0 Trump is Lying…again. The app allows Beijing to manipulate content and STEAL American data. “Unilateral surrender to Beijing. This is not the ‘Art of the Deal. It is the Art of the Steal.’”— Michael Sobolik, the Hudson Institute.

Deleted app

So the data was safer with china

It's unfortunate, but after so many people never dumped Twitter after everything Elon has done, it's clear these evil people can do whatever they want and it won't hurt their bottom line. I'm losing hope. People are too addicted to these apps for good change to happen.

This was always going to be the case.

Yet again evil dirt bags do evil and justify it by saying the other MUST want to do it as well because obviously everyone is evil.

Crazy hack to get around this. Never have a TikTok account to begin with.

Good thing my account is banned. Probably because I said some stuff about how people should delete their TikTok accounts.

Deleted my account and the app.

yep. as things got more out of control I finally decided that the kid doesn’t need a smart phone. they’re shooting themselves in the foot

And, already removing uncomfortable posts.

And your health diagnosis, your sexual orientation, and it wants to know where you are at all times. Dystopian.

Unfortunately, in order to delete my account, I had to agree. As soon as it let me, I deleted my account and Uninstalled it off my phone.

Their intentions are insidious. I am pissed about it though. My algothrim brought me news and videos that I’m not seeing on any other platform. I will miss coverage from live protests. I will miss first hand accounts of what’s happening, not only here, but in countries across the world.

Stubbornness > lazy. I’m with Bob from Bob’s Burgers, I’d rather inconvenience myself than let bullshit go unquestioned.

most have no idea

Thank you!

The USA has always had the worst authoritarian aspects of China, with none of the social benefits, and getting worse everyday!

What is ice chaos? I'm not familiar.

Amazing.

More than Trump's approval rating?

Almost like user privacy wasn't really the reason behind Trump's GOP demands TikTok be sold to their buddies?

wE cAn'T LeT cHiNa HaVe oUr dAtA!

smh I'm so tired of billionaires who think they can take advantage of people. Y'all, lookup Murena eOS Fairphones. They will completely disconnect you from all of this. It's the BlueSky of phones.

Refused to install this shit when it was run by Chinese totalitarians. Now that it's being run by American totalitarians, I've been vindicated again.

Never had one of those myself.

L…o…fucking…l

@hakendran.org 👀

Time for the good people to drop TikTok, unless you don't mind them controlling you 😫🤒

zero reason to use this garbage app

Does anyone know, If I delete the app from my phone without shutting down the account, is that still a concern? I have a second account I can't log into, then one that's dormant but accessible.

I’m learning more and more everyday that your info is usually much safer overseas than with U.S. companies.

So the Chinese company had more respect for user privacy than the US company

Remember when everyone fought so hard to stop the government from banning TikTok?

TikTok can git - You can guess

weird

We have to sell it they are sitting on you and trying to control what you see, as it’s quoted by a fascist ally of the dictator and his minions who proceed to spy on us and control what we see.

Shit app!

And Meta!! Hello people.. wake up. Meta United States Regional Privacy Notice | Privacy Center | Manage your privacy on Facebook, Instagram and Messenger | Facebook Privacy share.google/SkDEvpVcpR1z...

Wow can't believe all that hyperbole about china (senator I'm Singaporean) was bullshit because the USA wanted to harvest data instead

Does this affects entire South East Asia countries?

Interesting problem for USAms! Here's mine: I may enjoy concentrating on TikTok more in the near future. Why? Because my patience with the BlueSky "Discover" algo isn't endless: If it keeps rec'ing US content even if a European only comments on & adds African, Asian & LatAm content, I'll be p***d.🤭

To be honest, at this point I'd rather the Chinese government collect my data than the Oracle dude.
