I have a complicated response to this story by @jennyabamu.bsky.social: wamu.org/story/26/09/... Yes, environmentalists should consider the positive possibilities of the built environment. Transit infrastructure that reduces the need for cars and actually reduces driving is a good thing. However,
Plainspoken philosopher and poet, Berry encouraged us to turn from abstractions to the specific places and histories that condition our existence; and not to shy away from, but embrace, the limitations that make us human. 🪢 text.npr.org/1139228585

Not sure if everyone appreciates the difference. Rooftop solar hardwires into your main panel via a dedicated breaker, so it requires a permit, an installer, an electrician, and a utility agreement. Balcony solar just plugs into a wall outlet, sharing an existing circuit with no permits or rewiring.

The whole “What should Democrats be talking about?” conversation is dysfunctional. The winning strategy is that a candidate actually believes in things and is able to articulate why. “What should Democrats be talking about?” is party-talk, inherently undemocratic. text.npr.org/nx-s1-5903108

Democrats have stopped talking about climate. Strategists say that's smart—but they're wrong. Making climate a top priority wins votes, and barely 1 in 10 voters will vote against climate action. Read all about it in my newsletter, "Notes from the Electric Era." electricnotes.news/p/yes-democr...

The U.S. spent $11B in the first week of the Iran War and have spent many times that in weeks since, dwarfing the subsidy China has given solar panels. This war is all about oil and is another example of how our entire society is effectively built around enormous subsidies for fossil fuels. 🔌💡
The $18 billion spent on subsidies for solar manufacturing by China since 2000 is half of what the US has spent on subsidies for oil every year since 2000. There is no starker illustration of how badly US industrial & energy policy has been bungled. #EnergySky #ClimateSky #GreenSky #EconSky

Obviously Donald Trump is not an expert in refrigerants, but you can be, and understand why these decisions can be hugely consequential for climate change, if you read this quick 🧵:
Trump: "There's nothing wrong with the refrigerant other than sometimes it makes your food too cold. Its alternative costs about twice as much and it doesn't cool your food at all. Everyone that has it practically has gone bankrupt because their food has rotted."
