Now that there's no press pool, I woke up, looked at the paper and was reminded of Umberto Eco's introduction in his essay "Ur-Fascism" - "freedom of speech means freedom from rhetoric." The ever important essay can be found here: www.nybooks.com/articles/199...

Pierre Bourdieu once argued that the question of whether something is art isn't answered by the artist's intention or even the object itself. Instead, the quality of being "art" is conferred by a community — curators, dealers, auction houses, audiences, etc. 🧵

We're reminding President Trump what it means to be born in the U.S.A. We're honored that the one and only Bruce Springsteen trusted us with use of his iconic anthem ahead of our landmark Supreme Court case, where we’re challenging President Trump’s attempt to overturn birthright citizenship.

This is why we turn out. It gives community to those who might otherwise not know that solidarity exists.

He spent decades bringing the religious right to power. Now he's marching to undo it. Rev. Rob Schenck spent decades helping build the Religious Right—commingling church and state to advance conservative causes. Now, he says he must confront the damage he helped cause.

Ok, I couldn't stop thinking about this. Apologies to the literally dozens of people I've lifted from... I want to do a fully credited version, but I'm sitting here sobbing and, well, maybe you'll feel some release, too.

Getting older means losing heroes, mentors and lodestars at a more rapid clip. Amos Poe was one such light pointing the way to creation amidst detritus and punching up with your own resources and a mighty band while being kicked down. May his memory be a blessing: deadline.com/2025/12/amos...

I’m running for Congress because we need leaders who will fight, not fold. I recognize this moment, and I’m ready to meet it. #FightDontFold #LanderForNYC #LanderForCongress

This whole 🧵 is an essay that merits attention for a discursive analysis of decency, customs and fashion.

A friend who teaches theology shared with me a post about CS Lewis's Mere Christianity, which discusses foundational Christian logic across denominations. It reminded me of Dale's tweet below, and I wanted to share some thoughts here regarding modesty and respectability, which are often hot topics.

Still remember when Goldman Sachs threatened to move operations to New Jersey unless they got tax breaks. Giuliani, then mayor, said "try taking your clients for lunch in New Jersey." Goldman stayed in New York.

I've seen this go by a few times on TikTok now and I have to say, I love this idea. We need a way to convince people to keep running even if they don't win, maybe building the loss into it as a troll move is the secret.

It was today I learned that One Step Beyond is a cover. And leave it to the inimitable @carlzoilus.bsky.social to provide criticism with nuance and social context (as well as a fre relatable biographical notes).
