I've seen this go by a few times on TikTok now and I have to say, I love this idea. We need a way to convince people to keep running even if they don't win, maybe building the loss into it as a troll move is the secret.

I'm in between Tuscaloosa and Birmingham. I've been pretty much a homebody in recent years because long covid kicked my ass, but I love to be a support player! I think my nephew is in a chapter at UAB?

Well, we have a seven person board of education filled with folks left of center... but a supermajority can't do the job and it's created an actual serious problem, so...

We had a candidate who did this in Kansas - she ran in an unwinnable house race and improved Democratic turnout enough that the Senate race above her swung Democrat. That seat ended the Republican veto override. Once we got a Democratic Governor, her upheld vetoes moved policy left. Losers win!

Also, her efforts helped elect a Democratic Rep (Sharice Davids) and contributed to the Democratic Governor Laura Kelly's victory as well. Moving the needle by shrinking the margins in a hopelessly gerrymandered district is a huge, irreplaceable contribution to bigger victories.

Someone suggested that I run for School Board. I said "That's crazy. I'd never win." That's when they told me "There are a lot of reasons for running that have nothing to do with winning." I ran. Twice. I wholeheartedly endorse it. Run. Even if you're going to lose.

Also has the benefit of forcing wingnuts in gerrymandered R districts to actually have to spend money to defend their seat. Make incumbent Fatty McRacist (R-East Jesus) have to sweat a little.

I’m convinced Trump planned to lose in 2016 and just do Fox News crap, but he won and just got addicted to the crimes & perks. No interest in the job, but needs it to escape the law. So while it’s never a sure thing someone will lose, it couldn’t get worse than that 🤞
