Watership Down is the classic British kid trauma, but mine is a bit unusual - I don't think my dad really understood the concept of books that were too scary for children, so I got read it as a bedtime story!!

In honor of scary media month: what is the first piece of media you remember truly frightening you as a child?

when searching for a GIF leads Google to think you've fallen into AI psychosis and are hallucinating being viciously defamed by Glinda the Good Witch of the North

Spending my bank holiday coming up with the next gay series to take the world by storm. Two guys working in different whisky distilleries meet at a trade show and start an illicit romance. Call that Peated Rivalry.

Two contestants on the Great British Sewing Bee come to blows over a skirt and one has to go to A&E to retrieve a sewing mushroom from his rectum. Pleated Rivalry.

A pope and an antipope in mediaeval Europe go from excommunication to sex communication (early sexting via carrier pigeon, featuring some scorching hot calligraphy). St Peter's Rivalry.

Two vets in a small farming community clash over their differing treatment of the same sheep, leading to hate sex in a nearby horse trailer. Bleated Rivalry.

My world, my Earth is a ruin. A planet spoiled by the human species. We multiplied and fought and gobbled until there was nothing left, and then we died. We controlled neither appetite nor violence; we did not adapt. We destroyed ourselves. But we destroyed the world first.

We're at a point where there are no cheap options to retreat to and no price points that guarantee quality. Every run-down studio is $1400, every fast food meal is $17, every luxury condo has peel-n-stick tiles, every $300 pair of boots falls apart. Endless expensive mediocrity.

You will not regret scrolling up for the rest of this thread about the sheer audacity of cats to walk into houses they don't live in and swan around like they own the place Honestly, excellent cat behaviour πŸ’―

Just imagine - you’re a cat, with presumably a house, but you ignore that house and come instead to *my* house, and you walk in like you own the place, and come and go as you please and do whatever you like whenever you like. Just imagine how smug you’d be. Pretty smug? Not as smug as this bastard.

when they said there'd be bread and circuses, they should have specified that the bread would cost 200% more than it did four years ago and the circuses are only available on your least favourite streaming network for $19.99/month

papam, papam, I see it the smoke papam, papam, the Holy Spirit has awoooooke papam, and gifted us a pope, papam, papam, he woke or broke?, pa-pam... (Kylie Minpoupe)

Sitting on a little regional Italian train, reading Murderbot with CHVRCHES in my ears as little hilltop Tuscan towns roll by, and feeling pretty fucking serene I tell you

Still enjoying Saltsea Chronicles, but my god that card game is a chore. I don't know if I'm just bad at it or the AI partner is intentionally stupid, but it's like Bridge if Bridge came with random card values and a penalty for winning too much.

Started Saltsea Chronicles, because one can never have too many visual novels centred around post-apocalyptic community and interpersonality (Citizen Sleeper, I Was A Teenage Exocolonist, etc., etc.)

Enjoying it so far, it's very Le Guin-esque (antagonists have their reasons, protagonists have their conflicts, babies must be cared for, there is always time to play cards).

Flu update: spent my energy spoons for today going into town to buy a shirt and tie for the funeral on Thursday that at this rate I will not be going to πŸ™ƒ

Flu update: slept 12 hours last night, left the house today for the first time since Tuesday, and made it alllll the way to the Tesco at the end of the road. Then had to make dinner at breakneck speed before the last of my energy drained away. Going to be a fun weekend πŸ™ƒ
