My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today. Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.

SCOOP: 'Tommy' from the now-viral exchange with Abdul El-Sayed is Thomas Teepell, a former staffer for Republican Senator Josh Hawley with close ties to Christian Nationalist Sean Feucht. He's the son of a former Bobby Jindal staffer whose consultant work was instrumental in getting Hawley elected.

Alice Weidel is saying that Zelenskyy “is not interested in peace,” and that in order to have peace in Ukraine, “we need to take Russia’s security interests into account.” She is a straight-out Russian asset. Note how Alice recoils and refuses to acknowledge that Russia rejects making peace

Midterms are around the corner. Let’s all be this lady when we show up to vote the MAGAts out of office and take back both the House and the Senate. #fucktrump #fuckmaga

“Marathon Man” turns 50 today. 🎂 It’s true: Hoffman really did stay up all night to look "out-of-it during the dental scenes," director John Schlesinger said. It didn't work. "I had to completely reshoot.. That’s when Olivier said to me 'Why doesn’t he just try acting?'"

Reading has become an endangered species. Which is half the problem with American political life. Maybe more than half. If you can't read, you can't think. Then you can fall for anything. The idea, for instance, that the truth is fake news.

This whole AI plan - all of it, from shoving it down people's throats, embedding it in every corner & human endeavor, to having it commit cyber crimes in a desperate attempt at corporate capture + regulatory subsidy - seems not particularly well-conceived. Maybe there's no plan?

9/11 victim Michael Massaroli’s son: "You do my dad's legacy & the legacy of all victims no honor using this tragedy to spread hate. I've had to spend 25 years seeing people use it to hate on our Muslim brothers & sisters, people who don't look like them."

25 years ago, terrorists killed nearly 3,000 people, including 2,753 New Yorkers. As we remember that terrible day, let us also remember the first responders, office workers and strangers who ran toward danger to help each other.

The biggest streaming platform having a staggering 14 pre-80s films is such a sad state of affairs. My media server has more pre 1910s films than this, my 70s collection alone is ~1600 films. Netflix is an embarassment for cinephiles.

Netflix's Sept pre-1980 films Licensing deals w/ Universal and Sony provide most of these, but they keep cycling the same titles in and out. You'd think Universal would be more creative w/ the throw-ins than just parking OTHER SIDE OF THE MOUNTAIN (1975) and HEROES (1977) there all year. #FilmSky

1. Rick Steves has spent $2 million of his own money to rescue a single-screen theater in Edmonds, WA. This is part of a multi-million-dollar effort he has made to invest in community properties in order to preserve local institutions and keep them serving the communities they were built for.

Kudos to the @theguardian.com for keeping climate change news high priority. You would hardly have noticed any of it from U.S. media which seems to keep the top stories on all the weather disasters happening and not the source of it. Guardian published the UN warning on breeching 1.5 degrees.

This is my reply to this post from Rick Kogan. Read the article below which came out 10 years ago from the late great Kris Vire. www.timeout.com/chicago/thea...

"The Front Page" is back on stage, at Northlight, a play that changed American theater. Set in Chicago in the 1920 it remains potent. Say director BJ Jones, "I think it helps explain our era, our politics, our media. And it is so, so funny.” www.chicagotribune.com/2026/09/01/f...
