What kind of numerals do you use when you make up fake statistics about vaccine harms, you shitweasel?

Let us look at the facts here: Putin believes Ukraine is a fake country. He does not care how many Russians die in order for him to rule it. He has consistently taken the maximalist position even against a friendly regime with Trump. Where is this mythical peace deal?

OBAMA: He's got the White House looking like Saddam Hussein opened a Cheesecake Factory. It's gold everywhere.

The vagueness, the arbitrariness, the capriciousness: all hallmarks of authoritarian power.

Last week I wrote about how Texas politicians’ “free speech” campaign has led to a campaign of academic censorship in the state’s universities that exceeds even the McCarthy era (🎁🔗) www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/1...

The latest Musk publicity stunt with his “”””flying”””” car illustrates the broader issue with a lot of the tech industry these days (particularly AI, but related to enshittification in general) in that: What pressing problem is this supposed to solve, and does it do so efficiently and effectively?

I say we tally up all the times JD Vance has brought up the subject of transgender kids in public and all the times Talarico has brought it up to see exactly which one's hard drive we need to inspect.

"He's just a guy who shows a weird focus on transgender kids ... typically people who say stuff like that tend to have some unusual search histories" -- JD Vance, who is obsessed with demagoguing trans issues, baselessly suggests that Talarico is a pedo

JD Vance running around the country saying he’s fighting health care fraud while his nominee for the senate in TX who he completely supports is partying in Dubai with a guy whole stole over $300 million in health care fraud and gave Paxton $190,000. This is the Republican Party.

Oh.

DNA from 5,500-year-old graves near Lake Baikal in Russia points to the earliest known mass deaths from plague. The victims were hunter-gatherers, challenging the idea that epidemics emerged only after humans settled into farming communities. meduza.io/en/feature/2...

Please try to reclaim your precious precious attention, at all costs. Do puzzles. Take walks without a phone. Dear god, try to read, almost anything that isn’t a manifesto will really do. You are going to need your brain.

I’m generally reluctant to reduce to individual psychology what are clearly deep systemic problems in our society and economy. That said, this guy is a straight-up lunatic.

Trump tells the UN he is officially changing the name of Artificial Intelligence to "Super Intelligence" and says all US government documents will now be changed to refer to "SI"

NEW: As AI companies provoke intense scrutiny, former Obama White House official Jay Carney has joined an effort to “rebuild bonds” between Democrats and the AI industry. Dem operatives are joining the AI industry in droves – we’ve tracked over 100 former Biden officials who made similar moves.

These pro-AI whiners can't fathom why everyone's so hostile on Bluesky. This is a knowledge-worker bar. You couldn't go into a steelworker bar and brag about outsourcing their jobs. Why would you expect a warm welcome here? Plus, you're always bragging about ending life on earth.

Idiot, racist Trump is talking about eugenics. Eugenics (a phony science) gave us the Holocaust, slavery, and countless other sins against humanity and decency. I also believe in blood. All humans have blood and it’s all the same. What a nightmare.

Hello, human geneticist here. There is no scientific basis for attempts to define people in terms of “good” or “bad” genes - these are discredited views in service of racist ideologies. For consensus & concerns of experts in our field, see e.g. this 2020 statement from @geneticssociety.bsky.social:

Yeah, see, you lost me at “a concern that many leaders have felt”

Recent research suggests that remote work has been a major contributor to deteriorating mental health between 2011 and 2024, confirming a concern that many leaders have felt as remote work has become more prevalent.

Trump takes a break from fear-mongering about communism to brag about seizing the means of production: "We had a problem with Intel. And we settled the problem. They gave us 10% of the company. That was worth $12 billion."

I love these infographics explaining how LLMs work and the particular problems they pose for science communication!

Here’s why AI chatbots (Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini etc) are unreliable for science content, and terrible as “just a starting point” for science communicators. Unfortunately, this probably isn’t something AI chatbots get much better at… although sloppers will get better at hiding it!

As anyone in publishing will tell you, women do not resist reading books by men, but men will often dismiss books by women. This is not a publishing problem or a failure to target men. It's a misogyny problem.
