you: please act normal you need these people to like you me: ok! people: hi me: Space toilets are incredibly complex, break often, and require training to use and maintain - the ISS toilet trainer has a camera in the bowl so astronauts can practice “docking”! Apollo astronauts pooped in bags!

you: please act normal you need these people to like you me: ok! people: hi me: Im quite serious when I say that I want to orbit and probe Uranus! It’s a type of planet we’ve never properly explored before, yet it’s the commonest type of planet in exoplanetary systems. And it has 5 round moons

RFK talks about autistic and Arabic people the exact same way. He assumes they are not capable of ordinary or extraordinary achievements because of who they are. He considers them sub-human because they are not like him. This makes it plain that his is a white supremacist eugenicist project.

RFK: "There's five hundred million Arabs in the world. And yet they don't produce science. They don't win the Nobel Prize. They don't win the Fields Prize. They don't win the Wolf Prize. They don't produce literature."

The Phoebe Bridgers show last night in Seattle was pretty magical. Having no phones in sight made it extra so.

Couple takeaways (No inside information): 1. It is notable that Blue launches first and loiters in orbit. NASA really cares about not wasting a crew launch, so they want everything up there first and the crew goes last. This is hard and drives power/prop budgets because payloads may need to stay

This is a thread worth paying attention to if you care about your space agency, it's direction , the way it does science.

Day 1 - SSB Fall Meeting 2026 has started. It is currently the opening address and they are introducing the priorities. We are entering an era of technological innovation, sans science, if what is being discussed is reflective of NASA as a whole, with "Nuclear NASA" and X-planes taking the lead.

We all know the "Viggo broke his toe" story but what's another movie fact you're personally compelled to bring up every time without prompting? For me, it's the fact that Robin Tunney is wearing a wig in The Craft because of having just shaved her head to save her job filming Empire Records.

It doesn’t take a quiz whiz like @kenjennings.bsky.social to know 645 is wrong for Washington. Vote NO on 645. 🗳️ no645.com

My favourite bit of reporting for this story was finding out ISS astronauts were growing little gardens in their quarters in secret—and only this summer have NASA explicitly permitted them to do this. Astronauts are, in many ways, just regular, hopeful humans. 🌱

For Indigenous Peoples Day, here’s a talk I gave explaining how Columbus was basically the original trans-Atlantic drug trafficker. You will be never think about the colonization of this hemisphere in the same way again. The “drug” economy powered hemispheric growth (and enslavement) for centuries:

True story: I was at an Odyssey of the Mind competition in high school when I heard that Kurt Cobain died. We were watching MTV in a motel the night before the competition.

i will never care if bluesky is popular! i did Odyssey of the Mind! i took robotics in high school (and sucked at it!) i was on a Harold team at iO West! NOT iO. iO *WEST.* i am immune to popularity!!

There’s a good reason the Kickstarter for the new MST3K episodes was funded so quickly and thoroughly. It has, as they say, the juice. And the jellyfish!

The first brand-new MST3K episode STING OF DEATH is available right now, immediately, at once, other words to indicate that concept! If you missed it in movie theaters, now’s your chance. You can also order a package of this plus the three next eps in various formats, as they come out. Enjoy!
