The central questions of the Republican primary in 2028 will be (1) Do you want to make Marco Rubio Caudillo of the Western Hemisphere vs (2) Do you want Tucker Carlson’s Nazism in One Country?

Phil Lewis@phillewis.bsky.social

WASHINGTON (AP) — State Department says it will give US visas to defeated Brazilian presidential candidate Flávio Bolsonaro and his family.

Ethan reposted

a 2028 election win means we could extradite flavio so he’ll probably try to flee the US at that point and the whole thing will be extra funny

no one is "going to pay" until 2029, sorry

Anjali Dayal@anjalikdayal.bsky.social

Okay let me be even clearer. She does say she wants accountability and investigations. She does not say what should happen after investigations, or what kind of accountability. That is not good or specific enough. This is absolutely a moment that requires clarity and conviction on making people pay.

Harris's single greatest weakness imo is she is a fundamentally very cautious politician, which is itself very much a product of the path of 'the how' she came to power

Acyn@acyn.bsky.social

Kamala Harris: I think that going in the direction of impeachment is not a good idea. I was in the Senate for the last go-round, and the votes aren’t there. I think after the election, we all have to just also agree that our attitude has to be to get stuff done…

it'd be super cool if Democrats don't lose a single governor's mansion next week (which is unlikely with Kansas but who knows)

MLC@chicyph80.bsky.social

Big, BIG mail ballot drop just hit in Nevada! Dems at about +3,667 today With about 30 mins left, GOP only up about 300 in IPEV lol GOP is beyond fucked in Nevada

Ethan reposted

fun fact here, if Democrats flip either of Ohio or Florida SEN next week, those new senators get seated for this congress!

J. C. Cantwell 🌻@segfaultvicta.aludel.xyz

do people understand that Alito's definitely going to retire within Trump's term and that's why the Senate is important? these people were alive in 2016, right? do they want Trump to appoint another goddamn Kavanaugh so things get worse, and if they do not want that, why are they acting like they do

It is funny that the only Jewish state in the world has like a party for every thirty citizens and is chronically incapable of forming a government

he'd rather pout in the corner and give bibi another 3-6 months of power than form a coalition with any of those dirty arabs

Henry @henrythedog.bsky.social

its interesting to me, how people were able to understand that Péter Magyar was a candidate of the center-right (or more the anti-corruption right) and that was a huge win over Orban but I keep hearing that Gadi Eisenkot, who is much more of the center, is "the same" "barely better" etc than Bibi

the reason a bunch of us think we might get a serious polling error in favor of dems this cycle is that a lot of polls, when you look at LV screens, are going “we think the shape of the electorate is going to look like 2022 or even redder in terms of who actually votes” does that sound credible?

Every news story is like “DSA-backed candidates win big in municipal elections; National Hoe-Scaring Committee furious, demands answers”

Vituperative Erb@vituperativeerb.bsky.social

My vague sense of DSA dynamics is that the folks I know in local chapters are like earnest lefties and the things I see on here about the national folks make them seem like insane cosplayers

the story of how sports betting became legal is odd. instead of directly banning sports betting, Congress passed a law requiring states to ban sports betting, which the Supreme Court held (doctrinally correctly) is unconstitutional. but Congress clearly had the power to directly ban sports betting

i don't think anyone should run explicitly on banning online gambling but i do think that a democratic-led government should just quietly take steps to undermine the industry and create an inhospitable regulatory environment

Yeah TBH I think the left needs to crush John Samuelson's mob as a lesson for what happens to chud unions that defect.

Sam@samd.bsky.social

TWU be like “Hochul is MAGA because she doesn’t support our MAGA union” in reality, they’re just mad at Hochul because she refused to expand the union’s expensive handouts and make-work jobs funded with taxpayer $$

I don’t think we should get used to a man this wealthy, this full of hate and this willing to demonize a small minority having so much power in our economy and in our politics. To defend democracy, we must defeat the oligarchs.

I think it's fine that Barack Obama made fun of The Cheesecake Factory but also you are kidding yourself if you don't think there are Americans who consider The Cheesecake Factory to be fancy, special occasion dining. Multiple things can be true.

I think if you want to gamble you should have to go to a casino to do so. This is not a big ask. I am not talking about making all gambling criminal. I am talking about predatory apps that are doing their best to ensure a generation of Americans never know life without debt.

I think we underestimate the appeal of antigambling politics because every problem gambler is surrounded by 3-10 people who are absolutely sick of their shit.

I'm going to point out that Jesse Singal has a very public track record of being intensely, specifically cruel to individuals, specifically the trans people who criticize him, whom he has hounded to their workplaces, harassed online, and (at times) successfully gotten fired from their jobs

Toby Buckle@polphilpod.bsky.social

every now & then someone on the anti-trans side will get cold feet about how openly ugly it's all getting—they want to keep the image of a nice, sensible centrist but it's never enough for them to get off the train

Tata and The Cheese plus Hung sounds like a 70s sitcom on acid and is also a pretty likely description of the acting ptdo SECDEF rotation if/when pete quits

Mike Black@mikeblack114.bsky.social

nah senate will refuse to confirm anyone trump is willing to nominate, budgets steve will have long since quit by then, so we'll be left with a rotating acting ptdo SECDEF between the USDs, likely some combo of tata and the cheese

because people on here apparently think I throw hissy fits about not getting paid during a lapse in appropriations, let me just preemptively say this would be a slam dunk theory of victory for a standoff

Greg Sargent@gregsargent.bsky.social

Is all this really feasible? Won't Trump refuse to sign anything like this? Won't he litigate it? Won't it lead to government shutdowns? Yes, yes, and yes. But it's still absolutely doable and necessary. Here's why: newrepublic.com/article/2171...

It is atrocious we have to operate under this constant credible and explicit threat from one political party, the fact we keep calling it a “free and fair election” needs some light revising

Andy Craig@andycraig.bsky.social

Yes. My median scenario is Trump rants, it becomes their talking point, DOJ probably files some more junk suits like these, but then not much else happens. There's real risk of worse, some full push to go insane on Jan 3, but more likely it doesn't get that far, and also that would still fail.
