Reupping this thread because I'm not sure who convinced a bunch of Democrats that the way out of authoritarianism is to concede on EQUAL RIGHTS, but I can *promise* that it won't work. It never has.

Erin Maye Quade@erinmayequade.bsky.social

If folks in the Democratic party cannot find it within themselves to be absolute staunch supporters of trans people's rights because trans people are people who have inherent worth, then they should at least do it because if we give up on trans people, then we're literally giving up on democracy.

I am cognizant of my fears, rather than letting them spill out as angst and then doubling down on that angst. Because of that, I am able to make thoughtful choices about how to treat people and where to put my energy. It doesn't always play out perfectly, but it's better than running on impulse.

I get it. I am worried, and I have very real fears right now. We are entering a tremendously dangerous time. The GOP will do desperate things to influence the outcomes of the midterms, and after losing races. We have every reason to be on alert. But during dangerous times, we must be thoughtful.

A lot of people need to slow down and acknowledge to themselves that they're afraid, and this is affecting how they are interacting with other people. You have to acknowledge the reality of your feelings, or you won't control how they shape your behavior.

There was a fucking hole in our planet’s *atmosphere* Like a legit, no joke, “this will unravel our entire ecosystem” hole in the world, and then we fixed it by working together across national and political lines As a species we decided, “we will survive” Let’s do that some more

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

It’s infuriating to hear my friends, coworkers and neighbors slandered so cruelly. I feel very strongly that the Twin Cities has been improved by immigration, whether Somali or Hmong or Vietnamese or Ethiopian, and this will always be a place of welcome as far as I’m concerned.

If Democrats actually win big because people want a check on Trump corruption I expect every move to do so will be covered in the corporate media as being risky to their 2028 position.

Just a periodic, friendly reminder that we could actually avoid all this by not caring who’s attracted to, who’s having sex with who, who’s marrying who, let alone believing any of it should matter in public policy. We could just all mind our own business and all have rights. ✨

The GOP has no consistent values. Just staying in power no matter by any means necessary. This clip should be the response any of them utter any anti-trans nonsense.

WOW -- Vance *defends* Vivek's reprehensible ad 👇 Q: Ramaswamy's campaign put out a controversial ad featuring his opponent's mother. Some Republicans are backing away. Do you think it was appropriate? JD VANCE: Well, I'll be honest. Whether the ad was appropriate or not is not really my concern.

you're not attracted to me, I'm not attracted to you, we're both getting what we want out of this relationship. why fix what's not broken, you know?

My partner and I are currently dog deprived and so have to rein in our “Puppy! Puppy! Puppy” energy when we cross paths with the neighborhood dogs. Several of the dogs know us and know we are softies who will wind them up — I mean play with them *too much*

I just came home from shopping just as dog rush hour started. Which is why I am sitting in my car playing on the phone. Me juggling bags of food while dodging dog friends is courting too much chaos.

Ah. Artemis (who for years I was calling Caley for some reason) as passed. She’s been known to stop while crossing the street to stare at me, waiting for me to acknowledge her. But I might be safe now.

There is NO WORLD in which firing into a car in which a woman who *may* have shoplifted (diapers!) is "justified." There is no world in which summary execution for anything other than a gun pointed directly at someone's head is anything even approaching justified, much less justice.

One perennial issue with right-wing types has been their opinion that they're always the smartest person in the room, and, also perennially, how whiny and discomfited they get when it's shown that they are not and that their cheap rhetorical tricks and patterns don't work on everyone.

One of the fortunate accidents of this particular group of Fascists is that they all basically trained on the right wing of the Internet, so their real world skills keep lacking.

This won’t just make trans kids lives more difficult, this will require EVERY little girl to undergo sex testing to play sports. Because what 6 year old wouldn’t want to endure a genital exam and blood test just to play 1st grade T-ball

David Roberts@volts.wtf

On my long list of things to feel heartsick about: there is a genital-check initiative on the ballot in WA this cycle, intended (as they all are) to make a marginalized minority's life even more difficult, and polling shows that it is likely to pass.

I’m alarmed that more people aren’t alarmed by Trump targeting Somali Americans and labeling them “garbage” and “crooks” who “contribute nothing.” Most of them are U.S. citizens, yet Trump says, “I don’t want them in our country.” If you know history, you know the horror this can lead to.

If you would try to win by abandoning trans people (or any targeted group) you can save this “we need to win” talk; there is no “we.” I am about solidarity, and you have chosen anti-solidarity. You are not any “we” I recognize. You are the enemy I’m trying to defeat. Beating you is how my “we” wins.
