Finally finished this. Life has been getting in the way. A great history as soap opera; long on gossipy detail and character, shorter on the wide angle analysis than perhaps I would have preferred. Cracking read though. #Booksof2026 No2. #AlisonWeir #WarsoftheRoses

Great thread about the Brazilian election, turnout, and countering the right wing information machine

Genuinely I don't know that it comes across to people who haven't been here to watch how almost unbelievable this was, just people taking something that looked impossible and dragging it kicking and screaming all the way to inevitability.

During #WW1, the sculptor Anna Coleman Watts Ladd worked in Paris for the American Red Cross making prosthetics for soldiers who had suffered serious facial wounds. Here are some clips from film made #OTD 25 October 1918. 1/4 Source: catalog.archives.gov/id/25021

Great thread. Fingers crossed...

PUTINS DALIANCE WITH TRUMP IS TO STRETCH THE TIME HE CAN KEEP FIGHTING Russia has lost this war, but refuses to see it. Ukraine’s army has defeated its attempts to launch another offensive into the Donbas and mobilisation is barely keeping up with current losses. On Wednesday these reached a war

Steam Fall sale is ON! Too brain tired after Nighthawks launch to do a proper marketing for this right now. In the meantime, I will have blind faith that public desire for our games transcendes the need for me to tell everyone to buy them. There. Nailed it. store.steampowered.com/developer/Wa...

I can no longer in good faith recommend anyone to study in the US, or stay stateside for work and further education after completing degree programs they had started during the Biden era. US higher ed is unrecognizable even compared to a year ago when ICE was kidnapping students from their homes

Alex Ip 葉清霖@alexip718.com

Jesus Christ: UC Berkeley international students will no longer be allowed to complete internships or co-ops for course credit unless they form an “integral part of an established curriculum,” following repeated threats from ICE. This is going to send shockwaves across SF and Silicon Valley

I don't know who needs a real pickmeup today, but in recent court filings about the wealth owned by Andrew Tate, they indicate the Bugattis and Aston Martin he always bragged about owning... were rented. All of them.

Amazing mural, but at first I thought it was one of these: #DrWho

Discovered this amazing mural while running work errands today. For a moment there I actually thought the figure on the ground was a live person touching up the mural. It’s that good (or my glasses are that bad 😂).

Great thread about MMR and why splitting them is bad

Jen Keane@zenbuffy.bsky.social

I'm loathe to share this man, but this one is personal. My masters thesis was on the MMR controversy, so believe me when I say that this path of separation of the MMR will result in nothing but increased sales of too-small coffins, and children with life-altering medical conditions.

I check Facebook 1-2x a month for family stuff. Turns out a few days ago my dad made a long post begging for understanding about trans people by his fellow boomers. Last paragraphs are below. Dad doesn’t always get it 100% right. He doesn’t need to. He loves and defends me; that’s all that matters

Bought the book and filled out the form! Congratulations for the book and for getting on President Obama's Summer reading list!

Anniversary of the Act of Abjuration, where the Habsburg provinces in the Low Countries declared Philip II deposed for misrule, a proto-democratic inspiration both for the Glorious Revolution in England and the US Declaration of Independence. The first step on the road to the Dutch Republic.
