I trod the ship; I knew the crew; I have seen and talked with Steelkilt since the death of Radney.

Everybody in my earlier thread is calling the dog from the Tom Hanks movie "Hooch" and it's driving me nuts. For the last time, Hooch was the cop. The dog was named "Turner."

Remember, McConnell is better now than when Jennings spoke to him for 20 minutes about international affairs and legislative priorities. 2 months ago or whenever, McConnell was even sicker than he is today, presumably.

We’ve learned this week that when republicans said they just want immigrants to assimilate and they’ll be fine here it was bullsh*t.

Trump was at camp David for a few days even tho he hates it. I suspect it was for medical treatments in secret that he didn’t want mar a lago peeps to see.

In a weird way the strategy of the left is working. They elected Trump to punish Dems over Gaza with the dream that Trump would be so bad the freak out would create an opening for the left. And it is.

Bluesky is doomed if it doesn’t compete with twitter in sports. The Bucs account hasn’t posted to blsky in 2 years. There are no fan accounts fed to me. I rarely see any sports content here.

Breaking news: Indiana University plant microbiologist Roger Innes has been locked out of his laboratory by the school in response to a request by one of his federal funders. The move comes after Innes complained about the government’s prosecution of Chinese postdocs. https://scim.ag/4tsDqRr

It’s beautiful to watch. He consulted no one and his stepped into a minefield immune to his bullshit. The BEST case scenario is U.S. influence in the mideast is ceded to China. The Iranian regime emerges more secure and America weaker. The trick will be watching him say that’s a good thing.

MAGA is now floating the story that the WH has a Tucker Carlson sleeper cell and that Joe Kent is the evidence of it. We are living the dream my friends. The best of all possible timelines.

Every single goddam day there is some jaw dropping buffoonery that slaps us in the face in we just keep taking it like little bitches.

Ideas aside, 'rough men' isn't like Orwell. That's a posh euphemism, the work of someone trying to sound English. He was far simpler & clearer than that.

Orwell never said this. The first usage & attribution was by Richard Grenier (prankster & far-right madman) in the Washington Times, 1993. The closest approximation is from Notes on Nationalism - 'Those who ‘abjure’ violence can only do so because others are committing violence on their behalf.'

Kristi Noem: "It reminded me of the quote that is often attribute to George Orwell that states, 'People sleep peacefully in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.'"

Not the same guy, you brick-brained clown. The one who came to power in 1979 died 10 years later in ‘89.

Mullin: We are not wanting regime change, but the person that's leading this effort is the ayatollah. Remember in 1979, when he came to power, he was saying that he wanted to be a nuclear Iran

The rule about mental health specialists to not diagnosis politicians dates from the 1960s. The amount of public information available to them in the 60s was very small so the rule made sense. It doesn’t make sense anymore. Trump is a mental child and insane.

As we learn more about who is in Epstein files, a notable exception it seems to me is rock stars. I think jagger was mentioned once, but still. No McCartney, or Plant, or Clapton or Rod Stewart or any of the legends. Did Epstein friends not like music? Or maybe their sex world didn’t overlap.

According to an in memoriam page for ICE agents, the leading cause of death for ICE agents is Covid. And some are recent deaths not just pandemic covid. To me this suggests that in general ICE agents are unvaccinated. So maybe it’s good they wear masks.

There are 2 kinds of people. When John sings you can count me out you follow under your breath with “in” and those who don’t.

Trump’s chaos generates so much news that is like a full employment program for journalism. Why would journalists and media companies ever want anyone else in the White House? The press is going love on insane republicans forever now.

I agree with Rachel Cohen that ICE killing citizens isn’t a bug. Like, from poor training or low hiring standards. It’s the point. MAGA wants you to know that they can kill you anytime they want with impunity.

If this happened to a conservative organizer, Republicans would make her a hero, a household name and a congressional candidate. Elected Democrats just pretend it isn't happening.

Pirate lady zosia tells carol that the signal transmission is a biological imperative. But how does the hive mind know that? How does the hive mind know anything about its alien creator?

In Pluribus when the hive mind says they don’t kill does that include plants? They were very coy about what their bodies eat or if they even eat. Feels like they are teasing a reveal on the whole food thing.

Trump is an incredible engine of content for all media. Just a constant firehose of content. The press and internet will go thru horrible withdrawal when he’s gone. I wonder what that will look like. I fear it will be furious recrimination of his successor for being boring.

Government providing a social safety net is one way religion becomes decoupled from politics. That’s why republicans and the Christian right oppose satiety nets. They need each other for power. Their strategy for power cannot tolerate decoupling.
