No #waxcaps on this, or any of my other usual sites so far this year. This slope has had a good range of species in recent years, including ballerina waxcap. Is anyone else seeing this ? South facing slope with severe grass die off from June to the end of August.

We've seen a huge drop off in Field Gentian (Gentianella campestris) numbers across the south of the UK over the last few years, a worrying sign of climate breakdown. Our Director Dominic Price recently spoke about this on BBC Radio 4's Today Programme ⤵️

My #FavouriteFlower from this season is I think the Cloudberry (Rubus chamaemorus) Mwyaren y Berwyn as the walk to see it was so enjoyable. There were no clouds on that day. #Wildflowerhour

1) It's sad that we have had hundreds of news stories this year about parched parks and fields, but most don't mention how trees, shrubs, wildflowers and hedgerows are coping. This doesn't mention tree once, despite them being the biggest lesson in the photos: www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

The Daily Telegraph has raced through all five stages of climate denial this week. But this is, perhaps, the most ridiculous column so far: "Without minimising the severe downsides…especially on some poorer nations, many in Britain would enjoy the kind of warmer climate predicted by modellers..."

I'm really happy to have been able to publish this diary, which revolves around something very important to me - Welsh place names and the Welsh language - while also written about a place very dear to me; Ynys Enlli. www.theguardian.com/environment/...

While we cook in Europe, it's worth remembering that this isn't just a European story. Across the Arctic and other high-latitude regions, temperature anomalies are reaching extraordinary levels, with some areas forecast to be >10–20°C above historical averages. The climate signal is global.

On this day in 2021, I wrote: "British Curlew need to fledge 10,000 more youngsters - every year", based on survival/productivity figures in what was then a new paper. More here: wadertales.wordpress.com/2021/06/12/m... The figure has been much quoted (and not disputed) #ornithology

Ever heard the cricket-like song of a Grasshopper Warbler? This species starts to arrive to the UK in April, having migrated here to breed from Africa. 🔴 Sadly suffering declines, they have been on the UK Red List since 2002. 📷 Liz Cutting / BTO
