And for Day 30 of #SciArtSeptember#Carbon, I give my thanks to the life around us — and to wonderful #SciArt friends like @lizlagomorph.bsky.social who bring us all together in creative joy. Live long and prosper, peace and long life, my fellow carbon-based lifeforms 🖖🧡🦑🐡🧪
#SundayFishSketch this week is some first experimentations with linocutting. I’ve been wanting to try it for ages and finally picked up the necessary stuff at my local art supply store. I started small to not waste while I learn but I think that made it harder oops
I was hoping to get this chap finished by today but it didn't happen. It'll be finished soon enough ❤️🦀

Three years ago, my dad said that all fish are the same shape.
Out of spite, I decided to draw all 478 families of bony fish listed in Nelson 2016. There's still some stuff I need to edit and some fish I want to redraw but, after 985 days, I finished my big dumb fish project last night.
Looks like @kenjennings.bsky.social just visited (or is still in?) Taiwan 台灣 so my #SundayFishSketch will be in #Jeopardy format:
For $100 NTD: Also commonly sold and eaten in the United States, in Taiwan this widely farmed fish is named after a Mr. Wu and a Mr. Kuo.

Some great @kenjennings.bsky.social Taiwan nature latergrams just dropped. Our man even added a Formosan Blue Magpie to his life list!! Come back again and explore even more of Taiwan, Ken! www.instagram.com/p/Desp9qGCa-B/ 🧋💚🧪

🐠🐟And the series is now complete! Here is a selection of 21 pycnodont fish, showing their diversity through time

I've not done a #sundayfishsketch for a while, or any fish sketch for that matter. But I started an A-Z of sharks a while ago am I'm determined to get it finished now. Today I did "T". It had to be the Tiger Shark.

Can I get a fish expert, either illustrator, scientist, or outdoors person familiar with anatomy who I can email my sketch of a Sacramento perch to check the gill cover/facial anatomy of art I’m doing for park signage? Fish are still a new-ish subject for me and I need fresh eyes plz. #SciArt

I get the whole pharma ad schtick of "Teach the consumer the technical name of an ailment so they think it's a new thing science only discovered" but it's such an ironic ways #SciComm reaches mass audiences—for all the wrong emphasis/reasons. Makes me miss teaching my old #AdSciComm workshops 🧪
Just caught this ad from Tarsus Pharmaceuticals (what a name). The cat utters "Demodex Blepharitis" and tut-tuts "Call an eye doctor to see if you have mites" and ad tagline "Blame the Mites!"
But... humans all have Demodex mites!!! Another #SciComm headache inbound: www.ispot.tv/ad/giuO/tars... 🧪
Back to this guy #SundayFishSketch
I'm making all the deep sea fish to scale at the moment to get a feeling for how big they acually are.
This is a bigger one 😅 (1.15m)
Slowly working on a couple of ribbon eel pieces, started inking a sketchbook spread. Wrists are feeling sore and stiff. Stretching, hydrating and taking lots of rest in between. #SundayFishSketch#WIP#FishArt#ink#TradArt#SciArt 🎨🐡
Got the nose-end totally wrong, but it’s a sketch.
Sturgeon chub for “draw all the Kansas fish” self-imposed challenge and #SundayFishSketch
Ink + colored pencil
#SundayFishSketch is a Yellowtail Wrasse (Coris gaimard) that I’ve been working on as a thank you for the U of M collections manager for taking down (and rifling through) so many nasty coffin tanks for me (sorry Ben 😂). Might yet poke at this a bit more we’ll see
For this #sundayfishsketch I present a couple young brown trout (Salmo trutta) hanging out by the rocks and vegetation in this underwater scene. #fish#freshwater#trout#sciart
Just now I learned there's a genus of "ribbongoby" thanks to photos posted by IG user @konatsu0898! Here's one Oxymetopon compressus for #SundayFishSketch 🦑🐡🧪
As if the *sharks* are the problem???
(I have empathy for fishing-dependent communities but this is literally the corollary of logging old-growth forests) 🦑🧪
Local governments in #Greenland consider culling #Greenlandshark in an effort to prop up an ailing #halibut fishing industry
