@oldmanweldon.bsky.social The Nation magazine just published an excellent article by Luca Goldmansour titled "Democrats Have a Problem with Bill Maher," which calls out the double standard of condemning Hasan Piker while agreeing to appear on that clout chasing, bigoted, 70-year-old pervert’s show.

“No, we stole that term from you Black folk. And now it’s ours, because we use it. We use it to mean that the concerns and perspectives of you Black folk are annoying or wrong or dangerous, as a way of ignoring and dismissing those concerns and perspectives. Like I’m doing now—does that make sense?”

@oldmanweldon.bsky.social I hope you do a critique of Dave Rubin on Real Time and/or Club Random, because did you know that Dave Rubin has a weekly segment about Bill Maher called "Maher Monday," where he basically just heaps praise on him every week? He’s basically your Wario! 😂

I hate the line that the Constitution is "colorblind." The reconstruction amendments gave the Constitution eyes with which to see discrimination, ears with which to hear the cries of the oppressed, and a mouth with which to speak the law against it. The Court made it a blind deaf mute for a century.

I was just listening to @profmmurray.bsky.social on @podsaveamerica.crooked.com and she described the Articles of Confederation as a government based on friendship bracelets. I’m totally stealing that description (with appropriate credit given of course).

i do think it's a legitimate issue that the democratic party is in an abusive relationship with the national press
Dems and mainstream media are trapped in a doom loop. When objectively scandalous things happen, the media waits for Dems to treat them as scandals and Dems wait for the media to treat them as scandals. Eventually everyone just moves on.

They’d rather the country be poorer and whiter than rich and diverse. Of course when the pie shrinks, the rich will demand the same amount and will tell you the crumbs you’re left with are because of immigrants or trans people or DEI. bsky.app/profile/apne...
Green-card holders no longer qualify for loans from the Small Business Administration, eliminating a longtime source of financing for immigrants that advocates say will discourage job creation and harm the economy.

it’s only an echo chamber when it’s the left. when it’s the right they call it some bullshit like the Agora or the Town Square
I’m so tired of seeing people bash Bluesky for being an echo chamber when X is an actual intentionally constructed echo chamber that is demonstrably radicalizing people across the political spectrum who still use it

It really is amazing how much of political punditry, *especially* elite outfits in NYC and Washington, still embrace this bizarre idea that rural spaces represent the "Real America" while metropolitan areas, where most (presumably real) Americans actually live, should be held in contempt.
Just going to point out again that our arbitrary political rules permit Republicans to attack urban areas with impunity but strictly forbid the faintest whiff of condescension toward rural areas by Democrats

1/ @oldmanweldon.bsky.social This atheist with a God complex thinks that celebrities should stop speaking out on issues because they're costing Democrats elections. He also claims that they "don't strike people in most of the country as sensible or in touch with reality." (Projection much?)

Nixon insisted the bombing of Cambodia was just targeting Viet Cong outposts there and not meant to undermine its government, but the bombings destabilized the Lon Nol government and paved the way for the Khmer Rouge’s killing fields and the massacre of more than a million people.
NBC's sources said that "the potential mission in Mexico is not designed to undermine the Mexican government." But that's what it will do if the US is doing CIA drone strikes on Mexican soil over the objections of the president.

one of my recent preoccupations is the visceral hostility the MAGA right has for the histories and traditions of the United States. these are people who spit on the Declaration and salute third-rate European despots!
It's striking that progressives like Tim Walz and Zohran Mamdani evoke the middle American attitude that, "Yes, we can fix these social problems because we're Americans and it's the right thing to do!" While the "America first" right only emulates failed and failing nation-states elsewhere.

And just as a reminder, the Obama-era IRS "scandal" the right was so enraged about here was the agency simply questioning whether explicitly partisan Tea Party organizations were eligible for a specific tax-exempt status that, by law, forbade the recipients from engaging in partisan politics.
