This summer, we signed up for a week of dive lessons. I’d never really learned how to use a diving board. It was an hour a day of throwing my body into the air and hoping I did it right. It was some of the most fun I’ve had in years, and I’m so glad we did it. (First in a series of Good Things)

It'll be interesting to see which countries dare offer the Trump family asylum, when the time comes.

WASHINGTON (AP) — State Department says it will give US visas to defeated Brazilian presidential candidate Flávio Bolsonaro and his family.

Fuck 'em.

Trump is trying to bring Confederate monuments back to Arlington National Cemetery, but we should be honoring the real patriots who fought for America - not traitors who fought against it.

Right, now find out how you *pronounce* "Pall Mall."

Orin Kerr@orinkerr.bsky.social

For those confused that the National Mall has no shopping, the etymology of the word "mall" is particularly interesting.

Oh, look, it's the US Park Police. Again.

My strong advice is to go into a used bookstore or library and start reading older books. The industry is understandably biased towards what’s new and shiny, but you shouldn’t let that determine what you read next.

And he'll do the same to the US, during an Administration that doesn't give him what he wants. Either stand up competitors or nationalize Starlink.

I think one of the reasons Russia feels comfortable rattling its sabre at Europe is because it knows that the US will not only avoid its NATO obligations, but will actively side with Russia. Would not be surprised to see US troops deployed in favor of Russian interests at some point in next 2 years.

I was talking with a Gen Zer about the Talarico/The Chicks collab and she knew absolutely nothing about the mass cancelation of the band over the Iraq War and she was absolutely shook. We must teach the youth.

And this reminds me - I am going to the Annapolis Boat Show tomorrow w my wife, and I am so very excited about that. I am neither an Annapolis person nor a boat buyer (for now), but I am so looking forward to being immersed in a completely different world for a while.

It's Friday afternoon, and I am now marking the two week anniversary of me being able to hold off posting the best (@*@#( photo of me in years. It was a good run.

In 1992, I was hired at the Record Bar at Shannon Mall, near Atlanta. Two weeks later it closed, much to the surprise of everyone, including the manager.

The lines on this are always nuts. Which is a good thing, I think. But it makes me wonder if I should just go up to a car at the end of the line and ask if I can just dump my batteries and laptops in their backseat. No? Hmm.

TOMORROW: All roads lead to Fall 2026 E-CARE at 1425 N. Quincy, rain or shine. Bring your old goops and dead electronics. Bikes and Halloween costume donations too. Arlington residents only, no businesses. www.arlingtonva.us/Government/P...

Mark is doing what we should all be doing in our professional lives - being direct about the institutions and elites in our fields, pointing out the failings and consequences.

🧵🧵🧵 The NY Times posted a 15-minute video today in which I got to tell NYT what’s wrong with its coverage. They said they saw my critical posts on Bluesky and invited me to do a video with them to air my grievances. Weird, right? I didn’t hold back. I blasted their sanewashing of MAGA extremism.

Cannot emphasize enough how important is is for people like me (and probably you) to do this. Clown these dipshits.

Aaron Reichlin-Melnick@reichlinmelnick.bsky.social

Yes, absolutely. For example, if in the next few weeks, Trump sends ICE officers to polls, you know what you do? You go anyway, you throw them a middle finger, and you walk into the ballot box and don't let them intimidate you. What you don't do is despair and stay home.

This captures the entirety of the 2026 DOJ in one exchange. Trash on the level of DHS.

This is an excellent point. When pro-democracy, anti-corruption forces get power, they won't need elaborate new laws to start getting Elon Musk, Palmer Luckey, Peter Thiel, and other tech oligarchs out of government. They've almost certainly committed fraud and other already existing crimes.

The Bi of Hormuz@joshstein.bsky.social

I agree with this completely, but I think we should also recognize the opportunity here. These three people will commit lots of demonstrable fraud in these contracting processes, and it provides a critical opportunity to for IGs and the DOJ to publicly address military industrial corruption.
