My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today. Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.

Many comments on the great election victories in Brazil and Serbia state that the authorian right is in decline or that voters have rejected far-right authoritarianism. That is a wrong interpretation of what happened. Progressive movements mobilized and beat the authoritarian right. That's different

Elon Musk has spent at least $366 million since July to boost Republicans ahead of the 2026 midterms. That’s just 0.0385% of his total net worth. Oligarchs can rig the system at the expense of everyone else, and only spend pennies doing so. We must get Big Money out of politics.

This isn't just a problem for Europeans, lack of US reliability is also a huge issus for Saudi Arabia, UAE, Mexico, Japan, South Korea and at this rate even Israel. If the US is no longer able to coordinate a global network of alliances it loses its exceptional position in the global system

Ian Bond@cerianbond.bsky.social

We still have many friends in the US, but we shd certainly reduce our dependency. Trump has been elected twice: that's a warning that despite the intelligence & military ties we have, we shdn't rely on the US govt doing the right thing in future. We & the rest of NATO & Ukraine are in the same boat.

America should serve as a warning and an example of what happens when people put autocratic leaders in a position to govern. Europeans should be looking at what's happened here and asking themselves if they want the chaos, economic disaster and loss of quality of life the far-right always bring.

That's exactly what I said. She is already announcing that France will stop helping Ukraine. Other similar situation will happen in Germany with the rising of the fascist far-right. I just hope that Ukraine can show us their brilliancy by overcoming this problem one more time. #SlavaUkraini
