At the early voting poll site today asking people to vote for Kathy Hochul on the Working Families Party line. I'm not a fan, but she's miles better than Republican Blakeman, and voting for her on the WFP line sends a message that we want more progressive policies.

2 things can be true: 1) the worst milquetoast corporate Dem (not named Fetterman) is nowhere near as bad as Donald Trump 2) if a milquetoast corporate Dem (who won’t prosecute the Trump regime, expand the Court, or Abolish ICE) wins the 2028 Dem primary, an even worse fascist will win in 2032.

"Online Rent-a-Sage" Bret Devereaux@bretdevereaux.bsky.social

Yes and also this sort of 'uniparty' nonsense feels so hollow deployed in the midst of a national stove-touching. It turns out the difference between a 'milquetoast corporate Democrat' and Trump was really big! President Harris would not be driving trans soldiers out of the military!

In case you think your Bluesky posts are read only by vegans in Madison, Wisconsin, I'm here to testify that a NY Times editor saw my post slamming a softball story about Karoline Leavitt, and he invited me to slam the Times further on an NYT video. Which I did. My Stop the Presses newsletter.

Real voters exist, but bots leverage social contagion to manipulate turnout. Simulating mass momentum signals to low-propensity voters that "everyone is doing it," motivating real people to the polls. When the bots vanish, that artificial peer pressure disappears, and turnout responds in kind.

It's so rare that you lose a favorite food joint in NYC and then get to see it return, but I'm thrilled that my longtime fave vegan restaurant Red Bamboo is back, now at 307 West 38th Street for takeout and delivery! Check them out: www.redbamboo-nyc.com

Ah yes, I have the same problem with my EmbezzlerBot2000. It frequently takes money from people, acting on its own, and puts it in a mysterious Swiss bank account, again acting on its own. I assume I'm free to go now, officer?

I do not care for the rehabilitation of Curtis Sliwa, a lunatic vigilante, as just a cute little New Yawk guy, not just because of his personal politics, but because it’s rewarding his attention-seeking behavior

Been on an online vigil for a woman being executed in TN tonight, and after 2 hrs of silence it comes out that they've botched the execution. Absolute incompetent bloodthirsty idiots. Hoping against hope that she isn't suffering. Naturally SCOTUS is culpable too. www.tennessean.com/story/news/c...

Just a regular reminder that 51% of accounts online are bots. And a portion of the remainder are troll farms running sock puppet accounts. Save your energy and don’t argue with these people because they are not people. They are there to propagandize you or to grift. Or both.

Running of the buffalo in Brooklyn today (such a cool event, produced by a few different theater companies in partnership with Native American artists and leaders).

Heads up, transit nerds. I have to recommend this Metroboard from the Design Rules Company. They have them for multiple cities. I'm obsessed with my NYC one. It shows real time subway train activity. It's a little pricey and you may have to wait awhile for delivery, but it's worth it.

Saw Coyote vs ACME yesterday and absolutely loved it. If you are a Looney Tunes fan, you're going to be delighted. It's a bit like Roger Rabbit, where the toons exist in the human world. I can't believe Warner Bros. tried to nix this film.

One of the things us an industry need to stop doing is perpetuating the 'they say this on social media, but they're a sweetheart in real life' about awful people I've had other journos say this to me about some of the most pernicious grifters over the years, some of who crossed many lines this week

Concerns over fake phenomena cannot be held in good faith. There's no such thing as "good faith" concern over razorblades in Halloween apples or vaccines causing autism. If you still have 'concerns' about these issues you are uninformed, a bigot or being manipulated. No other option.

time to root for the USMNT in a completely normal and not at all controversial game which everyone agrees shows international soccer at its best

People are right to be mad about the predictable Platner fiasco, but it's worth remembering that last year a ton of establishment Democrats supported disgraced sexual harasser Andrew Cuomo against clean-as-a-whistle Zohran. Tolerating problem men is an issue across the ideological spectrum.

This is amazing. May need to find a similar way to customize mine.

Plenty of USMNT jerseys around including this custom one IMPEACH kit for Donald Trump. Trump at center of a World Cup controversy, calling Infantino in hopes of overturning Flo Balogun’s red card suspension. FIFA insists he didn’t have any influence. Hasn’t stopped Trump from taking credit today.

In the recent NY-13 race, Kalshi had the incumbent Espaillat up considerably right before polls closed, and that changed quickly once the returns actually started coming in. Within about 45 minutes, they had the challenger like 98% favored to win.

7. Kalshi’s political markets, which dominate the coverage on CNN and are featured prominently on CNBC, are also the least accurate. A February 2026 study found that Kalshi’s political markets “compressed toward 50%,” meaning they systematically overvalue longshots and undervalue favorites.
