We already have flying cars. They're called helicopters. They're really expensive and there are good reasons you have to have a pilot license and work with air traffic control to fly them. Putting jets on a sedan is not going to result in a better vehicle or transportation experience in any way.

"Lupe" shared this video saying, "It’s 96° in Gonzales. CA law requires employers to provide shade for workers. But in this non-union cauliflower field, there’s only one shade structure for over 40 workers. It isn't right to put workers' lives at risk." #WeFeedYou

I love every single person who has ever put up a "how to fix this thing you own" video on youtube. You have saved us with car repairs, saved us from buying a new phone and now from buying a new tv. Generousity and kindness can be found, galore.

The majority of my Ai experience is it being the mandatory first step on customer service chat that never actually solves the problem but adds 5 or 10 minutes of wheel spinning until it finally relents and connects you to an actual person.

Probably more helpful to think of them not so much as “Canadian wildfires” but rather “climate change wildfires currently consuming Canada”

You go to that fancy Italian restaurant — and who’s in the kitchen? Latinos. You go to that fancy French restaurant — who’s in the kitchen? Latinos. Latinos grow it, pick it, clean it, cook it, serve it, and do the dishes. We are the backbone. Don’t fuck with us, we’re busy.

My former music journalist colleagues all loved Nina Simone. I adore her. Her voice is textured : rocky, raspy, fluctuating, deeply resonant, intense. Like rich black chocolate. Nick Cave described it as "a mixture of both love and scorn." And I think it's right on the money. Perfect weekend album.

Yesterday, a caravan of about 13 cars drove from L.A. to the California City detention center - 100 miles each way. Then we joined a rally in town, and heard about all the people who've died there, including a 16 month old baby. Each center makes about 800K A DAY. It's CECOT on our shores.

The world could be such a nice place if we allowed it. It's all so goddamn unnecessary. There's no need for any of it. It's so beautiful here. It should be so cool to be alive

"I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where. I love you simply, without problems or pride: I love you in this way because I do not know any other way of loving but this..." Reading Pablo Neruda tonight, to remind myself that I am not the only one to have loved so fiercely.

Pritzker: "Any rational person who has spent even the most minimal amount of time studying human history has to ask themselves one important question: once they get the citizens of this nation comfortable with the current atrocities committed under the color of law, what comes next?"

Pritzker: When did we become a country where it's okay for the president to insist on national television that a state should call him to beg for anything, especially something we don't want? Have we truly lost all sense of sanity in this nation that we treat this as normal?

RIP Graham Greene. Every time he popped up on screen when I was a kid, my mom would excitedly point him out for being an actual Native on the screen. Able to be deadly serious and infinitely hilarious (even in smaller roles like Last of Us), he ate up the screen. Nʌki’wah brother.

ICE *already* can't meet their detainment numbers without rounding up children, veterans, people born in the U.S., people with no criminal records, people at immigration hearings, plus academics and visitors with valid visas. So who do they plan to detain with >10x the budget? The answer is: you.

Aaron Reichlin-Melnick@reichlinmelnick.bsky.social

If the GOP reconciliation bill passes, ICE gets through FY2029: - $45 billion for detention, on top of the current annual budget of $3.4 billion - $14.4 billion for transportation and removal, on top of the current annual budget of $750 million - $8 billion for hiring/retention - Billions more.

this is indeed pathetic BUT it also brings to mind my favorite quote from lost boys: corey haim: "wait, wait. you *have* a TV?" grandpa: "no. i just like to read the TV Guide. read the TV Guide, you don't need a TV."

Kristi Noem must resign. She has deported a four year old with cancer, detained a U.S. marshal, and arrested two members of Congress. She’s lost the confidence of the American people. ICE must stop terrorizing our communities.
