Not sure how it has taken me this long to realise the pleasing circularity that Canary Wharf is now the heart of the Isle of Dogs and is named after the Canary Islands, whose name derives from the Latin for Isles of Dogs.

Hey! Would you like good news? Remember how the police seized and crushed a legal Tern cargo bike by mistake? Well charges against rider dropped! Compensation for crushed bike! And dodgy “test” used to detect illegal “e-bikes” dropped! www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Mind-blowingly excellent portrait exhibition at #RBSA this afternoon. As ever, fun to agree/disagree with the prize winners. Sometimes I think "I could have a go at that", but in this case, absolutely not. :-) #birmingham

The A18 Pro in the MacBook Neo is 19% faster than the M2 Ultra in the Mac Pro in single-core performance (Geekbench 6). The MacBook Neo starts at $599. The Mac Pro, which is still for sale, starts at $6,999.

My Christmas/New Year DIY project was to adapt some IKEA BEKVÄM spice racks into a set of interleaved shelves for the kitchen. Most of the woodworking was done in my friend's garage in Cambridge, then it was "just" a case of mounting them onto the wall back here in Birmingham. #IKEAhack

So the OBR's "early PDF publication snafu" report has been published obr.uk/investigatio... Not sure I agree with criticisms (WordPress scheduled post/page publication (nope); HTTP_REFERER configs (weak); blaming the Download Monitor plugin (seems robust)) but I could have misunderstood. #JustUseFTP

Thinking that the best way to deal with racists is to try to get them to vote for you by enacting racist policies just means you become racist. The only way to deal with them is to fight back, to oppose them, and (for those who can change) to change them. And render the remainder powerless.

While visiting The Hague, we made a day trip by tram out to Delft. We experienced the pretty canals and quintessential humpy bridges we were hoping for. Plus we climbed the church tower for amazing views over the town.

Just back from The Hague. Probably not an obvious European city-break destination, but we had a great time. There was a staggering breadth of retail (and restaurants) in the centre ranging from international and local chains through to quirky independents. Oh, and some historical buildings too. :-)

The #ForwardGallery 's current exhibition, "The Master Collection", contains an amazing array of internationally famous artists. For free! Right in the centre of #Birmingham! The staff are lovely, knowledgeable, and friendly to those of us who perhaps can't afford to buy anything. :-)

A human on a bicycle is nature's most efficient traveller. A version of this graph went on to inspire Steve Jobs of Apple, who used it in a 1980 presentation describing the personal computer as "the equivalent of a bicycle for our minds."

There’s some comfort in Vodafone being down for everybody this afternoon: it’s been the most unreliable ISP for us here that I can ever recall, can’t wait to be out of contract in February to switch to somebody – anybody! – else.

Today I walked past where Birmingham New Street's living wall used to be. Despite promising (in April 2024) that they “…are reusing old plants and adding specially selected new ones…” it is, somewhat predictably, now just plastic plants. And some hoardings with pictures of a living wall. :-(

Wandered over to have a look at the two under-construction #HS2 bridges here in central #Birmingham. They’re very big and really not very finished. Given the money it’s all costing, I kindof expected workers there today… seems not.

Paid a visit to the #ForwardGallery in Cannon Street earlier. Loved the Horace Panter "Access All Areas (AAA)" exhibition they've got upstairs at the moment, and also great to see other contemporary art downstairs too. Friendly, not at all intimidating! #Birmingham
