Remote attestation is a heavily underdiscussed threat to computing freedom. People often mistakenly dismiss it with "I will run my own fork (of the OS or browser) / Magisk", not understanding that with hardware attestation, you're literally unable to 1/

Apple and Google are gradually expanding their use of hardware-based attestation. They're convincing a growing number of services to adopt it. Google's Play Integrity API and Apple's App Attest API are very similar. Apple brought it to the web via Privacy Pass, which Google intends on doing too.

”An engineering team at a large AI vendor decided that the user's machine is a deployment surface to be optimised for the vendor's product roadmap, not a personal device whose owner is the legal authority on what runs there.”

Chrome is reaching into users' machines and writing a 4 GB on-device AI model file to disk without asking. It is the weights for Gemini Nano, Google's on-device LLM. Chrome did not ask. Chrome does not surface it. If the user deletes it, Chrome re-downloads it. www.thatprivacyguy.com/blog/chrome-...

With printed media, you can just store it in a warehouse. When some company says "we never said that," you can go to the archives, fetch a newspaper, and that ends the argument. When the companies on their websites change stories, there is no archive outside the Internet Archive.

An extremely funny thing about retro rereleases that use unlicensed emulators is that you are basically committing the exact same crime (using software outside of the terms of its license) that has you so scared of downloading roms in the first place but now someone has monetized it.

These stupid fucking harassment campaigns need to stop. I don't care how profound your sense of disgust towards someone's kink is. That is insufficient to mske said kink intrinsically harmful. Stop cooking your brains on outrage-stoking attention-seekers.
