Carn(ey)age. Rolling back a half century of progress in environmental and climate protection. For what? Oh right, profits for the already very fucking rich & some jobs in the extractive sector, while the rest of us are fucked by climate, ecological and democracy’s collapse. Danger: Banker At Work.
The federal government tabled new legislation Monday to make sweeping changes to environmental and labour rules, in Mark Carney’s latest effort to remove what he sees as barriers to development in pursuit of his pro-growth agenda.

This is the type of AI disaster scenario that I ACTUALLY worry about. (1) AI industry oversells the capabilities of its products to score fat government contracts. (2) govt puts the AI in charge of critical shit. (3) AI fucks up, because it has a nonzero error rate. (4) shit, now we’re at war.
That’s a load-bearing assumption, Dr Strangelove. www.cnn.com/2026/09/18/p...

"What’s actually happening is not environment versus economy. It’s one economic sector, extraction, being protected and subsidized at the direct expense of several others: agriculture, tourism, fisheries, and renewable energy development that rural municipalities themselves were courting."

Every time you take the premier seriously when she parrots Stay Free Alberta's talking points; every time you take Mitch's 300K claim at face value, you are helping to normalize separatism. drjaredwesley.substack.com/p/premier-sm...

If British Columbia can make Eby back down on UNDRIP, and Ontarians can make Ford back down on the jet, and Nova Scotia can make Houston back down on the budget, then Albertans can make Smith back down on gerrymandering. Organize, friends. #ableg
If you're anywhere in Canada & think that Smith's attempt to gerrymander Alberta's ridings doesn't effect you, think again If Canadians let Smith get away with this, then Moe, Ford, any premier or prime minister can manipulate the ridings to hang onto power It must be stopped #cdnpoli 🇨🇦 #ableg

Winning an election in Alberta always relies on building coalitions. But it is fascinating to me how it is typically assumed that the pipeline-loving demographic of the coalition is bigger than the pipeline-disliking demographic, or that it is even viable or advisable to court that demographic

As I said before, I get that we’re all busy and tired, we have too much on our plates. Everything costs too much, we don’t have enough time for work, play, chores, rest, and healing. I’m exhausted too. But we can’t let that get in the way of building power in our communities. [6/N]

Let's be clear about what happened today. Premier Smith introduced a bill to strip Albertans of Charter rights, denied MLAs the opportunity to debate it and the courts the ability to scrutinize it, and did all of this from her seat on a jet to Saudi Arabia.
The UCP government has invoked time allocation and on a bill removing Albertans' Charter rights. And they're using the notwithstanding clause to do it. Here's why that is a dangerous precedent. And why real conservatives need to stand up against it. open.substack.com/pub/drjaredw...

51,000 teachers are far more powerful than Danielle Smith and the UCP understand especially given that they have the support of the majority of Albertans. Solidarity is a powerful weapon we can use to put Danielle Smith and the UCP's corrupt regime in their place.

So yes—there are biases in climate discourse. But one “side” is a trillion-dollar industry defending its business model. And the other side is scientists trying to make sure your grandkids can drink water and go outside. Let’s not pretend those are 𝘴𝘺𝘮𝘮𝘦𝘵𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭. 6/end rant

It’s astonishing that the UCP isn’t being held to account. $1BILLION of healthcare & tax payers $! And that doesn’t account for the ‘gifts’ that the politicians are getting in return. And they now want Albertans to pay for vaccines to reduce waste? What about the millions/billions in corruption!? 🤬

I do think the wording in a lot of reporting is unhelpful b/c it implies ChatGPT has agency ChatGPT doesn't encourage, or think, or listen, or even hallucinate. It just pulls words out of its word-hole and assembles them in orders that align with patterns it's observed elsewhere

Unironically they should buy up the domains for about 60 defunct local newspapers in swing states. Hire two reporters to write almost exclusively about highschool sports and new restaurants opening with every 10th article about how the local GOP is screwing over people.
