This is fascinating given the 1969 White Paper and Indigenous opposition to eliminating the Act

Scott Robertson@sarobertson.bsky.social

Wab Kinew calls on Ottawa to abolish Indian Act: "I'm not sure if that lines up with your vision of Canada, that we still have a race-based form of identification in this country. It's long overdue that we have a relationship with Indigenous peoples that reflects who we are as Canadians today."

The Jewish Labour Bund (for which his great grandfather was a chairman) always opposed Zionism (all will be revealed in my forthcoming book!!)

Scott Robertson@sarobertson.bsky.social

Avi Lewis: "There's been a lot of aggression directed at me recently for being a Jewish person standing up against genocide. But it's part of who I am. It's part of my Jewishness. And I won't apologize for it."

Canadians can’t afford rent. Food bank use is at a record high. Wages are stagnant while the rich are getting richer than ever before. Of all the people who could use this kind of federal support right now, venture capitalists are at the bottom of that list. www.theglobeandmail.com/business/art...

It’s not enough to go vote in the referendum. We need every Canadian to also pick up the phone and call 10 people to get them to do the same. And then do the same and this is how we create a wave. You can just do it. You can just call 10 people you know. Right now. And tell them to vote 🇨🇦

The Trump-aligned CEO of an American corporation is dismantling one of Canada’s most important industries and 500 Canadian workers could lose their jobs. If we’re serious about making Canada strong, it’s time to take back control of our economy and nationalize Stelco.

Canadians want to build big things, but you can’t build those things without steel. To save the Canadian steel industry and take back control of our economy, Canada must nationalize Stelco.

This fucker helped the US lie their way into the Iraq war and needs to disappear (even if he might be on the right side of this particular one)

I'm working on a scan of the state of anti-trans hate in Canada, and am hoping to connect with other researchers/advocates working in this space. If that's you or someone you know, please reach out—I'd love to chat! And please share this amongst your networks! My email is mel@antihate.ca.

Media was all over Avi Lewis for his reflections on the genocide. But after a major newspaper appeared to threaten him — a major party leader —and his family as a result, the media fell all but silent.

HUGE thank you to @thetyee.ca for republishing this piece from my substack! Many saw a call to violence in the National Post article. Why isn’t that news? thetyee.ca/Opinion/2026...

While the separation question is likely to lose, the other nine ballots portend bad things to come from the UCP, regardless of outcome.

We won’t stand by while Mark Carney launches the biggest attack on workers’ rights, Indigenous rights, and the environment that we've seen since the Harper era. Join our emergency town hall on October 14th, and let’s build the power to stop Bill C-39 together. RSVP here: www.ndp.ca/stop-bill-c39

This is how you lost 2019. This is how you lost 2023. This is how you lose 2027. Absolute disgrace. Weak. Idealess. Backwards thinking. A joke.

We are very pleased that the southern route pipeline that we’ve been advocating for many months, over Danielle Smith’s objections, is moving forward.

If you work at a print shop or plant that produced these door hangers or know something about who produced them, contact me in confidence at journalismtips@protonmail.com.

From the DM’s… Allegedly these illegal door hangers are now showing up across Alberta… Without identifying who is distributing them. Sure would be a shame if someone had some doorbell footage… #abpoli #ableg #cdnpoli

"The writer in this article appeared to suggest that under Jewish law, [Avi] Lewis would be considered either a 'mosar' or a 'rodef' - both terms to describe traitors. The killer of former Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin used the same language to justify Rabin's assassination..."

We are disgusted and disturbed to see a piece run in the National Post that appears to potentially endorse violence against NDP Leader Avi Lewis for his argument that we all bear a collective responsibility to stop the genocide in Palestine. See our joint response:

Throwing billions in public money behind a pipeline at a time of climate breakdown – while sweeping aside environmental protections, meaningful Indigenous consultation and workers’ right to strike – is absolutely not in the national interest.

Good lord, could you have a worse position on this?

As a historian, can I just say how much I love this?? Let’s go!

Want to learn about the history of our city?  Well you’re in luck. This month, we’re hosting a massive scavenger hunt across the city — all about the history of organizing in NYC. Sign up at organize.nyc.gov and come see the city through the eyes of the people who built it.

The National Post is using language that seems wildly irresponsible and dangerous here Citing ancient “Jewish law,” it labels Avi Lewis as a “rodef” The ultranationalist extremist who assassinated Yitzhak Rabin rationalized his killing on the same basis: www.theguardian.com/world/2020/o...

The National Post publishes a piece suggesting people need to use "Jewish Law" to "deal" with Avi Lewis This can only really be interpreted in a threatening manner. nationalpost.com/opinion/yoni...

“Hajdu says there are times in negotiations when employers or unions refuse to bargain in good faith and instead wait for the government to intervene.” Pretty much every time the government has intervened it has been because the employers are doing this. Both sidesing it is so fucking dishonest.

This crisis moment is a chance to reimagine what kind of Canada we want to build – and Canadians are ready to build big things together.

We either all have rights or none of us do. It’s that simple.

I know living up to principles is whole other thing than having them, but it boggles the mind that “We refuse to abandon marginalized people” is something anyone who pretends to have morals thinks is negotiable. Trans liberation now. No fucking bending. Fuck you if you think otherwise.
