Detroiter Nicole Williams when asked if Abdul El-Sayed is ‘a bit too left wing to win in Michigan’: “At this point what do we have to worry about? Anything but what we have. We're on our way to hell, so at this point: socialist, socialize, social, dont matter to me, lower my cost of living!”

This guy got paid $250,000.00 to disrupt AES's event. A QUARTER MILLION DOLLAR ONE-OFF. It obviously didn't work, but now I'm thinking (for no reason whatsoever) about how Democratic leadership has treated grassroots activists with barely disguised contempt for *decades*

Marisa Kabas@marisakabas.bsky.social

Huge follow-up reporting to my scoop: The Guardian confirmed America Next—the conservative nonprofit founded by Bobby Jindal that was offering students $ to disrupt El-Sayed events—paid a firm registered to Tommy Teepell’s dad Timmy $250k for “canvassing and influencer marketing” against El-Sayed.

The point being we have people who are creative, joyful and talented that could be taking down conservative politicians who are actually deeply hypocritical and not prepared to face that fact. And you know what those people are doing right now? Working shitty jobs and hoping they can afford rent.

DSA basically figured out the secret sauce for getting everyone on the left (views ranging from social democrats to communists) to organize in a productive way without succumbing to infighting. If you haven't been in a left wing organization before, you hav no idea how difficult that is

I've been immersed in research on Reconstruction in Lousiana and it's a very difficult truth to absorb that the white terrorist movement in the South was among the most successful terrorist movements in global history. Took 10 years but it won a total & complete victory through murder and atrocity.

Derek Guy is a national treasure (and he doesn't need me to tell him so), but it's maybe not a *great* thing that "the well known public authority on menswear" is more well read on issues of state violence than 99% of big name national political writers...

Ivan Turgenev's "Execution of Troppmann" is a short essay, published in 1870, that gives a first-hand account of the writer attending a public execution in Paris. Turgenev's details how the drunk, unruly crowd turned a somber moment into a carnival. A deeply moving essay; I encourage you to read it.

We have an unusually High #Tornado Threat from #Hurricane Isaias This movie uses real data, to help educate on why this storm poses an enhanced risk. Notice the yellow vs blue arrows. Yellow are the winds just below the clouds, it’s the low level wind flow (jet) around and feeding into the storm…

i'm finally reading the time magazine interview with trump because i hate myself and it's really jarring to see a media outlet genuinely just transcribe what he's saying without filtering it through any lens to try and make it normal. he's completely out of his mind.

"Wait, it gets dumber" is the most universally accurate thing you can say about each and every individual story about Trump and/or his enablers

BREAKING: MS NOW EXCLUSIVE. Republican Eric Schmitt was warned about the Jack Smith texts. He used them anyway. GOP Judiciary staff told Schmitt the texts — obtained from the Trump DOJ — were "unvetted." Schmitt still used them.

Some people like "improv comedy troupe" or "cocaine" as the right word to sub in for "AI," but "the new intern" might be my favorite and the most relatable. Need a legal opinion? No, don't worry, I asked the new intern to do it. 🏆

Scenes such as this where the light is reflecting on the water are accomplished through a process called "backlighting", "underlighting" or "bipack glow". To create the effect a matte is cut and light is shone through the holes.
