The fun of sports is it’s pure emotion. Technically I should be rooting for the Chiefs because a Seahawks loss would help the Niners, but eff the Chiefs and their racist-ass name/chants and MAGA kicker.

My son’s high school theater department is doing “Radium Girls” as their fall play this year — not only did they do a great job, it’s all too sadly still relevant thematically. (Two more shows tomorrow if anyone’s in the San Fernando Valley and wants to check out some quality theater.)

Had a nice experience checking in with my GP. The young admin behind the counter asked what I did. I hate to say "I'm a critic" because it leads to bad places sometimes, but I said it, and he replied "that's important work." My eyes damn near fell out of my head, I was so surprised.

Old middlebrow military or spy thrillers were much more willing to take place in some kind of Hollywood version of the actual world, with (caricatures, sure) of real countries, agencies, etc. Even sort of campy outlandish shit like James Bond often referenced real conflicts.
