FORTY-TWO BILLION. Anthropic lost FORTY-TWO BILLION dollars in one year. The inevitable world-changing, ultimately efficient technology that everyone wants apparently.

Ed Zitron@edzitron.com

Reuters got some of the IPO docs. Anthropic is a total dog of a company. Spent $12.6bn to make $4.6bn in revenue in 2025, $7.33bn of which was compute costs. Operating loss of $8bn. Losses getting worse year over year. Amazing stuff www.reuters.com/business/fin...

My daughter currently reading through the Jacqueline Wilson oeuvre and I keep hearing about the most ludicrous melodrama, poor orphans and abusive stepfathers and exploitative mothers etc. It's increasing her knowledge of Victorian political economy though, so there's benefits?

They should make the David Walliams Alton Towers thing a Jacqueline Wilson world where you can experience being born into a dustbin, having an eating disorder and being groomed by a teacher

Oh is it like a townhall meeting kind of thing? Can I speak at it next? Or, shockingly, do they only care what billionaires think, and feck the rest of us?

In the west of the city, pushes for small traffic changes have been stymied by hazy timeline for BusConnects works. "If you ask, you'll be told this is part of the BusConnects project, we can't touch it until then," says Ray Cunningham, a Green Party councillor.

Hurray! Benches are little comfy revolutions because they make walking routes possible for those who need a bit of help along the way AND because they are a concrete (or wooden, or steel) manifestation of dignity in public space.

Feljin Jose@feljin.ie

I love a good bench! I think we need a lot more of them all around the city and that's why I got funding for new benches in my area in this year's budget. If you have ideas for where to put benches in Phibsborough, Glasnevin, Drumcondra, Cabra or Ashtown, let me know in the comments!

With over 870 school streets in London, 66% of kids are now getting to school by active travel. Every day there are 73,915 fewer cars doing the school run than when we started in 2016 - that’s the equivalent of a traffic jam from London to Newcastle.

Last night on the way back from juvenile training, we walked ten minutes in pissing rain to get the 11 (every 30mins off-peak). The 12 months or so where pushing a pram was my main form of transport and excerise in Dublin City Centre reshaped my mind. It really opened by eyes up to: (1) How important dropped kerbs (2) How much motorists run red lights (3) And park on footpaths etc. (4) How narrow/obstructed footpaths are.

Tonight, we reveal how water use from data centres almost doubled during the summer, peaking in July when the hosepipe ban was introduced for households. The figures show data centres used over 514 million litres of water between May and July this year. Read on thejournal.ie just after midnight 🔜

We have reached the stage of the summer where my children and their pals are just rotating houses to watch tv in. I have decided that the atmosphere inside someone else's living room counts as fresh air.

Devastatingly accurate. I walk my 11 year old in the morning and we regularly witness speeding, distracted driving, red light breaking, pedestrian crossing infringement, driving on footpaths and more. I have been threatened by motorists while still holding her hand. It's out of control.

Ola Løkken Nordrum@olaln.bsky.social

While children elsewhere walk to school alone from a young age, thanks to better infrastructure and lower speed limits, the RSA instead blames children’s neurodevelopment for why Irish children can’t do the same. My latest Substack on the disgrace that is the RSA.
