SCOTUS: considering race as one factor in a college applicant's file is blatantly unconstitutional ALSO SCOTUS: considering race as one factor in targeting whom to detain and deport is cool cool cool

Wow. Predictable, but still appalling.

If you aren’t already following @rachelwells1.bsky.social, who reports on reproductive health from Tennessee & scooped the story about the woman who was denied care for a pregnancy because she was unmarried, you’ll want to follow her immediately!

seems like putting a weekend Fox anchor in charge of DoD and a washed up reality competition contestant in charge of the Transportation Dept. while letting a ketamine-addled Nazi fire, en masse, the people who actually know things about the government and make it work was a monumentally bad idea!

NEW from American victim’s family: “…our beloved Sayfollah Musallet (nicknamed Saif) was brutally beaten to death by Israeli settlers while he was protecting his family’s land…” They surrounded him for 3+ hours, blocking medics from him. He died before getting to the hospital. He was only 20.

BREAKING: Israeli settlers have killed a young Palestinian-American. He was visiting from Florida, where he helped run his family ice cream shop. Comes days after we asked senators if they knew how many Americans have been killed in Palestine & Lebanon since 10/7. None did. He is now the 7th.

One of the more bizarre forms of gaslighting Trump & his enablers somehow pull off is routinely framing stuff that’s been an uncontroversial American norm for centuries as crazy radicalism.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

DOOCY: Booker and Padilla have a bill to require CBP and ICE officers to have legible IDs and then don't want them covering their faces. Would you sign that? TRUMP: They wouldn't be saying that if they didn't have our country, and they obviously do.

The Republican Party is the verminous, bigoted party of ignorance and anti-Americanism, striving to turn this into a totalitarian blood-and-soil shithole.

Matt Novak@paleofuture.bsky.social

Rep. Andy Ogles, a Republican from Tennessee, has sent a letter to Pam Bondi calling for Zohran Mamdani to be stripped of his citizenship and deported.

Indeed. It's important to understand that the rule of law isn't just "threatened" by what SCOTUS has been doing. For a variety of actions by the federal government, the rule of law no longer exists, because the feds have been willfully defying court orders and there will be no consequences for it.

But then how does it square with their earlier decision that those set for removal to El Salvador under the Alien Enemies Act must be afforded due process? Since the decision did not include the reasoning, was there some difference between the two groups? The supposed pretext for deportation?

“ICE” as snatching people from churches now. Never forget they said this👇🏾 MAN AT CHURCH: “We don’t want this in our property.” ICE: “The whole country is our property.” No IDs shown, non-government out of state plates, basic tactical vests that just say police. Who are these men?

RFK Jr.‘s extreme anti-vax views — and his related conflicts of interest — were a huge problem during his confirmation process. So he promised not to change the vaccine advisory panel. Today, he fired every single expert on that panel. It's a public health disaster.

Vought is lying. 60-70% of Project 2025's executive action proposals have been initiated or implemented — like gutting education and environmental laws. 30-40% is currently proposed as legislation — gutting healthcare, banking deregulations, voter suppression, and more.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

BASH: Is it fair to say that what you are doing now is in part enacting Project 2025? VOUGHT: No, of course not. (This is a blatant lie.)

I've had to talk in public about AI recently, for reasons I barely understand. I always ask, "raise your hand if you've read something funny created by AI?" No one does. That's because AI is inherently a mediocrity machine. It tries to find the middle of everything. It might be fine but never good.

it's very similar to the process in Hollywood of making "data-driven" programming choices - ultimately good political messaging and hit movies are both an unknowable and unquantifiable commodity and the best process we've ever developed for getting it is "let smart, experienced people try stuff"

NEW from me at MSNBC. Trump's tariffs are calamitous, incoherent, economically-illiterate, historically-illiterate, anti-worker, anti-consumer, anti-poor, prioritize enemies over allies, and will slam the economy, raise prices, and provide little budget savings. www.msnbc.com/opinion/msnb...

No matter your station in life, there is astoundingly little separating you from those men in that cage behind Kristi Noem. No charges, no attorneys, no hearings, no trial. Just conjecture and brute force could be enough to justify completely dehumanizing you, too.

I don’t think we fully appreciate the insane hubris of acting like you can send a couple of IT guys into a massive and complex government department and they will uncover in days what career watchdogs tasked with monitoring for waste, fraud, and abuse couldn’t.
